I actually tend to agree with Uphigh. Whether you want to admit or not, or whether you even realize it or not, if this had any non-brostep producers name as the title, I truly feel like it would not receive even a tenth of the criticism it has.

i quite like this song, got potential if the drums had a tad more variation and there was less gratuitous reverb on everything but probably better than anything i could do so decent effort

I saw in an interview that excision mentioned he is a metal head/into hip hop. I feel his brand of brostep is an accurate outlet of that. He also mentioned that he used to be a promoter and that he was thinking to himself "hmm why can't that be me makin hella money to produce and spin" (not quoting the interview)
I see nothing wrong with an ambitious person doing what they want for a living. However it may be perceived by the masses isn't his problem.

I happen to be a drummer. And I quite like music to flex its musicality. (to know that the producer knows music)

Yes I understand that the quality and production of the sound is a whole different ballpark, but the intricacies of the rhythms themselves are USUALLY generic and basic.

Yes phigure, I do acknowledge that the vids you posted are on the better side. Personally love those

sure they do, but at the very least they've got a few kicks added placed elsewhere, rather than just this laughable, ridiculously uncreative kick on 1, snare on 3 bullshit that goes throughout the whole track. i mean it's literally like a one bar drum loop repeated for the entire duration of the track. zero variation. that's about as lame as it gets

some people chop commontime breaks to create awesome halfstep grooves (see Toasty) and the little idiosyncrasies/imperfections of the original drummers playing makes the beats sound amazing, staggering, shuffling but keep going without falling down..

some people program them but use better sounds, grittier mixing, and more interesting patterns all around (see Skream)

a lot of folks don't use kick on 1 snare on 3 in a lot of tunes

Anyway a lot of dubstep has it. that doesn't mean these two can suck at it and get away with it imo. there's no excuse for these

In fairness, the shuffles do vary if you listen. Granted they're not that imaginative (we're talking two loops now instead of one) but it's not a terrible effort tbh. Again, for me it's the synthwork which is weakest here - bit bland sounding and not very musical.

It shows that minimal doesn't mean easy. Think it was Pistonsbeneath who said a few pages ago these sorts of efforts make evident how lacking certain producers are. Those guys can make massive and often impressive sounding riffage, but when it comes to sculpting the finer points it's all a little bit thin. Could be instructive comparing this to something like Goat Stare for anyone who doubts that.
