non-fashion heads (people that dont care)

Post by Pistonsbeneath » Thu Nov 10, 2011 12:02 am

whats the least youve ever managed to procure warm clothing for?

i bought a shirt when i was in brighton for £1 from a charity shop because my t shirt wasnt warm enough..my gf bought some stuff for £3 as well if i remember correctly

and also in a wider issue who else thinks our massively materialistic culture is untenable and doesnt sit next to the situation both financially and the general downward spiral of substance facing the earth as we speak?

countries are going bankrupt, the world is fucked....kids have been brainwashed into thinking they have to steal expensive trainers and that they in fact have the right to..maybe fair enough given the amount that lifestyle is being sold to those lucky enough to be able to afford it under their noses

if you dont like the thread subject and feel it offends you feel free to post btw im not about censorship at all

I have a robe of genuine elegance and beauty, warmth and comfort. I wear it as a smoking jacket and as an extra layer for beach fires.

I used to rock a Christmas pudding tea-cosy as a hat in school, around year 8. It was a freebie, my granny knitted it back in the day and we weren't using it so I stole it from the kitchen. Very warm item of headgear which provided me with a unique style to boot. The 'ear holes' were different sizes (handle vs. spout) but free is the right price so I couldn't really complain, and it got me some lovely ladies.

there is a shop in leeds that recycles old 2nd hand clothing and then tailors them to a more fashionable cut which i buy from quite often.

so essentially them buying it for next to nothing and then reselling it for £20 is probably doing the economy a good thing, wouldn't you say?

there are thrift shops in cities near LA (ventura, oxnard) that have amazing stuff. one time I got an Armani silk tie for like $2.50, and all the t-shirts are $2 a piece, whether they're Eddie Bauer or Hanes. Pants are $5 regardless of being Evisu's or Levi's. When I make it out to those cities I normally come back with a whole bag of clothes, most of which I end up donating right back.

Not at all, but the less you're willing to pay, the more time you're probably going to have to spend sorting through endless heaps of rubbish in order to find something worth wearing. I live with girls that can dress themselves to an acceptable standard for a music awards night by spending a day going round thrift markets, but I don't have the time - I'd rather drop a few hundred quid every few months (or maybe even less often than that, tbh... bit of a splurge in winter and one in summer probably) to get half decent clobber without spending my entire life having to think about it.

We all have our vices... but the urge to look good seems a lot more natural than many. I've never really understood why people stigmatise fashion so much... it's as if those who can't be bothered want to force everyone else to compete on the same playing field. It's not our fault you're an ape that's evolved for millions of years specifically to make snap judgements of people by appearance, as well as the empathy to understand others are doing this too yet you've somehow still managed to not give a shit about what you look like to them. That's your disability, not society's. :P
i used to care a bit more when i was younger i dunno does everyone really care that much about the shallow image others form of them?

sometimes people look at my shoes and you can see they think theyre bait, but i feel sorry for them for being so materialistic

and i would say not caring how you look is hugely advantageous in some ways, obviously professionally its a different matter but it depends what youre gonna do...i cannot have empathy im afraid for people that for me waste not only money but also food and oxygen :P

Got a good few free t shirts from a life in IT departments that I rock in the flat including a Netscape 3 and OS2/Warp ones. My housemate does a good line in Microsoft and Google t shirts. The odd free t shirt from mates bands and stuff...

Various hoodies and massive warm things bought for a couple of quid at festivals... a couple of jumpers so warm they only ever come back out for Glastonbury!

Actually, one of my favourite jackets (which I never get an excuse to wear anymore... ladies, take me to a ball) cost a fiver from a stall at Glastonbury, it was mudstained but dry cleaned out for about a tenner... wore it to a couple of events where I would've had to rent a suit otherwise (and I looked better than everyone else). Result!

haha i meant food in a throw a lot of food away way totally not related to materialism but a lack of understanding of how precious food is

you took that the wrong way...i put oxygen there as another unrelelated joke to refer to the amount of mums on my estate with 8 kids paid for by the taxpayer..again there is a 'food air situation here people' to quote bill hicks

wasnt saying materialistic people should die, maybe should have been clearer

well i can understand paying that much rather than hundreds myself, i guess i have come off as very judgemental here

if you have a love of fashion then great man, ive never got it myself...i like logos that look cool and interesting designs but never relating to the clothing itself, just the print on it i guess..as long as its the right size..i love last exit to nowhere :)

really. lol :t:

so you're saying, in a thread you started about materialism, in a paragraph you wrote, about the effects of materialism, as a conclusion, you decided that it would be appropriate to bring up *ahem* food wastage, and erm... the pro's and con's of a socialist welfare state?

just trying to get the full picture here mate *awkward smiley*
