Couple of questions on Sub bass.
Hello guys i've noticed that my tracks lack alot of sub bass which can give it that boom. What i was wondering is if its wise to remove the low end on EVERYTHING in the track and using one sub to compensate for it. Also is it wise to use the sub bass throughout the entire song? or to eliminate it in the breakdown and using it for your intro/drop section. Was also wondering what is the most effective way to create a nasty sub bass. Thanks in advanced. Any other sub bass hints are welcome
Re: Couple of questions on Sub bass.
Ive asked this question on here before and most of them said do it as a separate track...they were so right!. I tend to do the Sub as i got along as i find it easier. As for a nasty sub..... really the sub should be a pure sine wave so adding onto it is going to give your harmonics which you dont want.
Re: Couple of questions on Sub bass.
I always layer a sub under my sounds. For Example, if I make a sound in massive, I'll duplicate the track and make it a pure sine wave. This way, if you have a pitch bend in your track, you've till got portamento and that shizz

Re: Couple of questions on Sub bass.
that makes sense but the sounds that you make would already contain some sub if its a bass. i'm wondering if you're supposed to roll off all the sub frequencies in any sounds you have to then add a clean sine wave under it and it wont clash with any frequencies
Re: Couple of questions on Sub bass.
Sub bass is extremely limited sonically. Standard practice is to layer a simple sine wave underneath your track, because you have the most tonal control over a simple sine - you will not hear it invading upward in range, as you would if you used a more complex waveform with coloring effects. Best to use filters and/or equalization to prevent spillover between sub bass and your other low-end sounds (including kick).
As for exactly how you use it... lots of folks run the sine wave in tonal parallel to their midrange instruments, which is great but of course you've got to make certain your sub stays where it is supposed to be. (If your midrange makes a two-octave jump, adjust your sub line.) But, it would be heresy to tell you that you must follow that rule. Sparser placement of sub bass makes it a matter of emphasis (as in hip hop) ... ultimately it is just another tool on your belt, to be used as you see fit to paint the bigger picture.

Re: Couple of questions on Sub bass.
In logic iv saved a channel setting with an es24, some saturation plugs, a filter & a sidechained compressor there in case I need it. One click job done

Ive wondered about all thes questions myself especially removing the sub lo end on all my synths and just use the sub to compensate and if i should use the sub throught the entire song.acrap wrote:Hello guys i've noticed that my tracks lack alot of sub bass which can give it that boom. How I usually do my basses is ill have 2 instances of thor in one combi. The first thor, would be my high(er) end bass maybe with some wobble and the sub freqs completely cut out. The second thor (no wobble) would be my nice deep bass not always a pure only sine sub bass, but put some slight harmonics and/or growl into it (sometimes a pure sine sub). Then ill split the freqs mostly because it gives a fuller sound to it then if i feel like it, ill throw some distortion onto the mid and high freqs. Although I am starting to notice the negative side of doing this tho. I feel like I dont have enough control over the sub bass because since the thors are merged then split it all comes out as just one sound. so if I have everything plugged into a line mixer then through an eq or stereo imager it makes it so the entire synth is eqd. what ive recently been doing is not putting them through a master eq and just giving them their own seperate eq.
Is this a good way of going about my basslines? I would just like to know if you guys see any drawbacks to doing this or any good things about doing this? (acrap, sorry if this is threadjacking but I felt it was relevant to your question and maybe it gave you some idears
Dont get mad at the ignorant, educate them.

Why are not people makign a sub before their midrange?
