Re: ZOMBY
I found the synth one shot sample packs he used for Where Were You in 92 the other day. Was quite pleased with that.dr h wrote:It's the laziest kind of sampling really. Direct source, nothing cut up, modified, altered in anyway. Just drop a break over it, a vocal sample and done. Yes, it was given a "context", but the chords/melody were already done for him and that is the thing people remember about that tune. Just a shame really and it makes you wonder how many of his tracks use the same process.
Also, for those defending him/saying it doesn't matter, I wonder how you'd react if someone sampled Burial - Night Bus in it's entirety, stuck a break over it, and then claimed it for his own, neglecting to mention anything about the original track/artist. Exact same thing.

What is wrong isnt the sampling, its the fact that Zomby is percieved as this mysterious guy with deep feelings about life, death and clothing.

Re: ZOMBY
so basically what we're getting to here re: his production is that he has a really good ear and sense of context, but he never really writes shit and rips off most of the riffs he uses?
(that's kind of what i've always thought after hearing the song he ripped off (excuse me, "sampled") for "the lie."
