I jacked the analogy off someone else on here but it's 100% spot on.SunkLo wrote:Yes! This doesn't get mentioned much but it drives me insane. Shit sounds like a e-piano demo song. It's because there's no room for harmony due to there pretty much being only one instrument, so any sort of melodic content is cheesy as fuck..onelove. wrote:Nursery rhyme melodies
Not only is it a lack of sub frequencies but a lack of focus on sub frequencies. The only reason there's subs in brostep is because there's material everywhere else, why not? They completely fill out the spectrum with noise just so it's xtra br00tal. In legit dubstep the bass has room to command focus since it's a more pure substance.
It's back to my single nail vs bed of nails analogy. Brostep is like a nuclear warhead, dubstep is like a ninja assassin who slices the throat of their prey in the dead of night and doesn't spill a drop of blood on the satin pillows. A philosophy of using only as much precision force as is necessary to be effective. There is much power in rawness and purity. To me brostep seems like it's conveying a distraction instead of a message.
It's very much music aimed at young teens, similar to the clownstep movement. I imagine most just skip to 30 seconds in for the drop and then move on to the next song. There's no sense of progression or build, it's pure SMASH then CLASH then ZAZAAM, constant noises feeding into one another so there's no rhythm or continuity. Really don't understand how that'd work in any capacity on the dancefloor, compared to a roller like Haunted or one of Kromestars productions.
