A production forum remix contest would be cool.. Like the sample pack contest with more flexible rules

"Responses and Difficulties."

Let's get back to the point of this thread, yea?

I'm one for an advanced section for the techy's. I myself don't feel credible/advanced enough to post, but roaming a board where those who are more established and seasoned in production sounds very exciting. It's an opportunity for people like myself to c/d some creative/experimental directions I have gone :)

While the Advanced section is a good idea, I don't think we have but like 3 producers on here that I'd call Adavanced.

Exactly, and why would they post in the 'beginners' section if they are already established? You'd either get a load of new users asking questions and not getting answered (and therefore posting in the main section anyway, in which case people would get even more hostile as "there is a section for this kind of question rage rage blah"), or else they'd receive answers from other new users which would perpetuate a cycle of poor/possibly inadequate information gradually diluting it's way down.

Alternatively, we have the suggestion I made earlier that we have a more clearer version of some threads (i.e. the moneyshot thread) that is perhaps tailored more into beginner/intermediate/advanced sections. One thread like this for each 'major' topic (mastering/bass/my copy of Massive won't work etc), all kept tidy in one meta-search thread with links to the relevant places.

I agree with all of this. What's stopping people from posting "advanced" topics now? It's an active board, but the first page still has days-old threads on it, so it's not like these threads get lost in the cloud so easily.

Also, less dickheads, since I'm sure it's only a matter of posts before one jumps on me for no reason in this thread. So I suggest adding the word "DICKHEAD" to the "Reason" pull-down menu when you report posts, giving me sole access to it, and automatically banning the user whose post was reported. Surely that's just a couple of lines of code, no? :w:

Precisely my thoughts on the matter.

Inventive, but sadly out of my hands ;)

The idea of the forum being split into beginner/advanced is ridiculous to me (assuming beginners were not able to view the advanced section like the initial idea). I'm definitely not quite yet at that "Advanced" level, but more than a beginner. Everything I have learned has been from reading posts that I do not understand on this forum, reading about techniques/methods etc. I have no idea about, then researching them and taking things from there. This would not have happened if there was a split.

Another thing I can't stand about this forum is the majority of people not having the respect for other peoples taste in music. Yes, I hate them damn Skrillex threads too, only because there has been so many, but people are entitled to their own opinion and to listen to what they want.

More discussion please. If it's a damn obvious/retarded question then by all means, but when a genuine question is asked, either answer it or don't. Don't post "Have you used google?" for the sake of it.

I can think of a lot of things, none all that relevant to the production section specifically though... Most of what bothers me are the people, not the forum anyhow. I think better measures should be implemented for beginners. I reckon even something as simple as a homepage with two links, forum and wiki(bible). Wouldn't end the mass amount of newbie threads, but it would take care of a few I reckon as it would make the bible a hell of a lot easier to find.

Anyway, I'll stop boring you all with my words.

Wasn't proposing a split to the forum, just a section ware you can delve deeper

i don't think the splitting forum sections would work because who would decide it if was advanced intermediate or beginner?

one other suggestion I have is with the WIP thread. I think it should be formatted the same way the finished tunes thread is, done over a monthly/bi-monthly basis and archived after that time. at the minute its at 168 pages or something and I can guarantee there's a lot of tunes in there which have just been lost in the abundance of posts

Honestly, a message board is only as good as its posts, and I don't really see a lot of these suggested improvements encouraging better posts (but better posts would solve these problems). I see a lot of egos and a lot of posters clamoring to put others down, myself not always excluded, but really the best you can do is make the kind of posts you want to see more of, and hope others feel the same.

That would be a good idea, the initial idea mentioned a while back was to do a split though, iirc, and hated the idea. I wouldn't be against having two sections so long as both were open to everyone. I guess it would keep the spam/waste threads out of the advanced section. But like previously stated, how would you decide what goes where? The way I see it, there would be just as many threads getting locked because they aren't in the right section.

If there was a decent way of implementing it, would be cool.

i'm sure if you could get one sorted wub would have no problems with you running it. to do this we need a producer on this forum whose willing to release the stems of a tune to remix.

I'll look into it and see what I can do.

Was always considering an emulation contest/training exercise where we nominate a well known released tune and then everyone tries to recreate it to the best of their abilities (without sampling directly). Would be a just for fun kinda thing, but could help people about how to acheive production techniques they may not usually have used.

Many a minimum post count? Just had a look in the Dubs section and a lot of threads are made by people with less than 10, clearly they're not contributing anything to the community so why enable them feedback?

What you want ideally is a small active community. I'm not going to listen and comment on random peoples tracks for the sake of it, but I'd definitely be more than happy to if I knew the recipient was someone who'd in turn give my tune the time of day as well. I don't mean 'FEEDBACK 4 FEEDBACK' either, I mean generally a section for fairly established members to showcase their stuff with like minded individuals. Just sort of building a more personal community feel really.

Wouldn't work, plus we don't want to refuse people the right to post. That's kind of elitist. There is the general Dubs board anyway; we're talking about Production here.

exactly this

people will learn nothing by being spoon-fed.
Sure in a perfect world they`ll take the info and figure things out but we all know they`ll just come back and ask to be spoon-fed again and again and again.
imo this forum has just become about helping new producers and that`s where it seems to end.
Not all of us want to spend our day helping those that won`t help themselves.
I'm new to posting in the forum, but before i started posting i did tons of reading and trying things on my own and learned tons that way, i dont understand why people dont do this. music imo has always been about experimenting and finding your own way, not just finding the easiest and fastest way out

this, discussions of more technical level without having to explain yourself to the max, or have other pointless threads making it go to the bottom.

Open for everyone obviously.
