In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
I think it's time to call it a day on here.
I could sit here and write an essay detailing how obnoxious and elitist most of the posts on here are but I'm just going to keep it short and sweet.
I like the idea of a forum being a place for open opinion and discussion on topics but over the last couple of years as the sound has gained a much broader audience, it's turned more into a place for people to jump on something and attack it like a pack of wolves. It's people like this trying to close the door on newcomers that I don't agree with.
For those who don't remember, this is exactly what happened to uk garage when everything started getting darker and then when the grime hit em, the ukg heads were up in arms trying to defend their scene and keep it to themselves, not welcoming others into "the circle of trust".
A lot of us gave up on garage to do our own thing. From there we started making grime and dubstep. Look where ukg went after that. You lot are all heading in the same direction now.
I can't be dealing with dragging myself on here any more. It's not even much use to promote anything anymore because 90% of the users only post in topics that give them an opportunity to slag something off. If they aren't posting in them, they're certainly reading them.
It's all a bit negative for me. I know it's no big deal that I'm calling it a day on the forum but I'm just offering you all a word of warning that you're closing the doors on a scene which is actually far bigger than the forum. By closing the doors on the youth coming through you're alienating the root sound of the scene and you will be the death of the traditional sound the way you're going.
Just my 2 cents worth. I hope you all learn to chill out a bit and focus your energy into more positive channels than moaning about stuff or slagging people off.
It's been a roller coaster on here but it's time I got off I think.

I agree with everything you said, the trolling does go way over the top sometimes.

Feel free not to answer but out of interest what was the last straw that confirmed this decision for you?

Woah hold on a sec......apparently you did not realize that dsf won best website at the DMA's. Clearly that has to hold a lot of weight.

Considers making a shit joke....
But nah really it's a shame. I get what you mean. I rarely come into the main forum actually as it just usually means wading through endless threads complaining about the same old shit.
It's a pity cause for me the scene still has a lot to offer. It's just sometimes over run by idiots, trendy wankers and elitists alll arguing about nothing and caring more about how they look than what they're talking about

Big up man. You're the last of the original crew to keep posting here. The wolves mentality is a great way to put it. See you soon bro.

Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
I don't agree with pretty much anything you've said.
The attitude on the forum: elitist? Perhaps so. Wolfpack attitude? Welcome to society. The larger the audience, the more chance you'll have of getting troublemakers. It's a basic demographic principle.
Shutting the door on newcomers? What kind of bullshit is that?
Should we simply lie to ourselves and tell ourselves that we like all this new shit? I for one don't. It sounds like crap, it is crap. Are you telling me I have to deny myself and embrace a shitty sound so that my subculture could survive in a weak and twisted form, a shadow of its former self? I'd rather see it dead mate, than compromised for 99%. I'd say for a lot of us the door is wide fucking open.
But I can't just go to a rave any more man. I have to select my nights carefully. Because the sound I'm in the game for, is getting harder and harder to find because people, that should have stood up and said, "maybe this isn't the sound we should be looking for", just didn't do that. And I'm talking producers and label owners here, pinnacles of the scene. They helped kill off the scene and now complain about the fans, who warned them right from the start. This isn't the sound A LOT of us are looking for. It doesn't fit with the evolutionary tree. Can people not hear this?
But for some of those label owners and artists, dubstep became a living in the first place. So I see why they would compromise...
People are more than welcome into our circle of trust. But shouldn't they come by our standards, and not their own?
I so hope we head down the direction of UKG. Some of the best UKG is being made right here, right now. Yes it had a few dark years but I'll cope with that. My collection will last me a decade and I'll gladly revisit the older stuff.
And people are setting out to do new things, things that are in line with dubstep but off a new tip. Chainsaw bro garbage simply isn't it.
And its not all negative for you mate, it's negative for all of us. The fucked up twitches of a scene on the decay. The death of the traditional sound is inevitable mate.... the traditional sound died in 2008, bar a few exceptions that can be counted ON ONE FUCKING HAND these days.
I reserve the right to fucking moan about a scene that's been a large part of my life for more than 5 years now. Slagging off, ok there's no need for that. But such are the ways of the internet.
I seriously hope dubstep does a jungle. Best scene ever, still today.
Garage, last time I looked, is completely back. Jungle continued to live in the underground and, at least over here, there is still a healthy scene where you have old heads meeting each other, with the occasional youngsters who've revalued that scene. It makes for some of the better raves I've been attending ever in my life. Because I'm older now and it's all more strictly for the music and the vibes.

This couldn't be more wrong - I'd say the exact opposite goes on here. It's the young, innovative producers, who still have respect for the root sound, that get so highly praised and pushed on this forum. and look how many have risen to prominence recently. the forum has definitely played a huge part in the resurgence of deeper, minimal sounds recently with young newcoming producers leading the way. it sounds like the only place you're looking is the hate threads.

i know it's easy for older members to harp on back to the old days but just look at threads a few years back and the general tone of the forum is insanely different. obviously there was the odd few dickheads (dubmugga and zomby etc) but it really did used to be family vibes on here. take a look at it now and everyone's fighting constantly and trying to one-up each otherjoeki wrote:I don't agree with pretty much anything you've said.

if you really dislike a certain sound so much (i know i do!); then how about try and educate a new member who's just discovered a new type of music and goes onto the internet to share his excitement with people... and what does he get? a welcome by that pack of wolves that plastic mentions, who descend on him because he's not had the time or oppurtunity to delve into the scene yet. how is it helping dubstep, the forum, or anything quite frankly, to drive away a new member that could potentially have been a great poster, or regular record buyer etc. of course they may only like that type of music which they're welcome to, and some people are never going to change their minds but they're only going to be opened up to new music if their first impression isn't the one that most people will get when they sign onto dsf
can't we all get back to more of this please

Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
Well of course Badger I agree,
It is my duty to educate and I've taken it upon myself to do so. I write music reviews for several websites and own my own blog where I write about it positively, rather than bashing constantly. You can check it in my signature. I do share and try to educate people. Unfortunately, on the forum, there is no more use for this. Other social media have become way more effective for that.
Again, it's a bloody shame that there's hardly any serious communication going on here any more, and sure, I'm part of that problem over here I suppose. But I'd say it's a demographic principle. You've got a tight crew of 20 people, the atmosphere will be different from a diverse group of 20.000 people. We can't all be family any more.
