I wouldn't dj or produce without this place. I (unwisely) spend half of my paychecks on anything with tunnidge's artwork on it these days...fractal wrote:yes badge!Phigure wrote:badger wrote:if you really dislike a certain sound so much (i know i do!); then how about try and educate a new member who's just discovered a new type of music and goes onto the internet to share his excitement with people... and what does he get? a welcome by that pack of wolves that plastic mentions, who descend on him because he's not had the time or oppurtunity to delve into the scene yet. how is it helping dubstep, the forum, or anything quite frankly, to drive away a new member that could potentially have been a great poster, or regular record buyer etc. of course they may only like that type of music which they're welcome to, and some people are never going to change their minds but they're only going to be opened up to new music if their first impression isn't the one that most people will get when they sign onto dsf
can't we all get back to more of this please
sorry to see you go Ian, hope you find what your looking for
Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
Before this decends into a stupid argument (maybe too late here) why don't we focus on what can be done in a positive sense.
Some are going to agree with ian, some are not. But seeing as this thread has attracted a lot of attention why don't we focus on either the root cause of this apparent problem, or how we can rectify it.
Instead of just calling out the 'wolves' (and the Mods are included in this) maybe we can all work together to push things forward, rather than just alienating even more members?

First things first......I think people need to stop attacking people and calling them idiots (or worse) for having an opinion. You may not agree with what they are saying, and their opinion may be nowhere near what 99% of people think. But calling them an idiot doesnt really help anybody does it. It is much more productive to try and get your opinion over bettter manner.

This is 'Dubstep Forum'
The title itself is as ambiguous as the many different sub genres, this is a place for everyone's tastes whether you like it or not.

This board is a perfect analogy for the scene. It's easy calling people elitist pricks. It's not elitist, but we experienced dubstep in a completely different way. Is it so hard to understand that we are having difficulties getting into the mindset of this new generation? Some old heads did get into the new stuff (producers and fans alike). And otherwise, some new guys are really appreciating the old stuff. But is it that hard to see that there is such a big fault line appearing here? And that this is the cause for, granted alot of avoidable, grievances on the board as well as in the scene.rogue star wrote:I noticed that the majority of the people who have taken offense from plastics post joined in the last couple of years.
Before someone pipes in and says something to the effect of "that has no bearing on my feelings about the scene or the forum" listen up for a sec
Plastic and many of us joined this SCENE years ago, back then the SCENE was a flourishing hub where artists and fans alike could get info, shoot the shit, all in a well mannered, nice and friendly atmosphere at a RAVE. You go out anywhere and the vibe was amplified, everyone knew each other and while we may have had our personal preferences about the music, we all respected one and other UK and beyond.
In the last 2/3 years this has not been the case. Those that entered this scene during those years will never know the difference and treat it as just another means to have fun and act out. But, for those who were here before have seen and witnessed the vibe, a vibe retraceable to the better days of UKG, Jungle, Hardcore. and we shudder at what it is turning in to now. Im not tarring all newcomers with the same brush but the majority of the angst, winding up and insults and ignorance have come from the newer breed.
Mutual respect for both sides of the spectrum could sort this out. But a lot of us 'elitist pricks' are feeling underapreciated these days. Because it is undeniable that if any spectrum of the scene gets left out in the cold more and more, it's us. Perhaps we're just jealous we can't go to a propper rave any more.
And I said, people who shared the same experiences, came up together in a scene, are roughly of the same age and mindset...they're always going to get along better with eachother than with some 16 year old kids, that's life not music.

I suppose if someone posts some terrible bro music we can just ignore it instead of being rude and 'elitist'.

Tbh I rarely go on this forum now not just because the bitching is unbearable but also cos it's not as resourceful anymore...all the threads always end up with arguments about Skrillex (or were last time I looked). Today was first time I looked at dsf properly for while and then this thread catches my eye and kinda backs up my original thoughts.
Thing is, the slagging off etc. will never make me stop loving dubstep and the sound I love. As long as Hatcha, Skrenga, DMZ, deep medi crew, tempa, shogun, hyperdub, youngsta, icicle, chest plate, and similar sounds keep doing their thing I'm happy but obviously I am always happy to welcome newcomers with their new sounds. People like Badklaat and Dismantle I literally cannot get enough of...but if there is something I don't like I simply don't listen.
The slagging off should be cut down but it won't kill the scene completely. I also like the new paths some producers are taking especially the likes of Kromestar with his new stuff e.g. Don't Make Sense. I also like the idea of the preferred DSF sound going underground again...back to where it was born and loved.

if it's their own tune i don't understand why you would ignore it. i make an effort to comment on 'bro' tracks on here jsut as much as anything else. just because you don't like the style, doesn't mean you can't comment on the actual production
Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
To you (and me) its terrible but to the person posting its tunes they like that they want to share. Its still dubstep so why wouldnt they post it on a dubstep forum?JBoy wrote:I suppose if someone posts some terrible bro music we can just ignore it instead of being rude and 'elitist'.

Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
Maybe you need a better designed welcome pack for new users, or better policing of these exhausted threads which drive the 'elitists' mad.
Maybe set up an artist thread or subforum which allows all discussion of said artist to be placed in one spot instead of repeated. Would cut down repetitive threads and provide a one stop shop for fans.
I know the Mods are only human and not on here 24/7, but again new threads of spam/reposts/obvious trolling need to be hit faster to prevent the inevitable flame war.
If you see a rolling thread saying 'doctor p discussion' heads are not going to bother looking in the first place, but 4 topics of 'Y U H8 SKRILL???' are going to be met with frustration and hostility.
General Discussion needs some form of overhaul or nothing will change in the long run

So how about we ignore everything we don't like and see how it goes? (I doubt it'll change anything but hey)
Re: In the words of Duncan Bannatyne..... Im out.
It's pointless anyone still addressing Plastician by the way, he said on his Twitter he hasn't even checked since he posted the thread.

Well, he's certainly changed his mind since he posted this then:leyenda303 wrote:It's pointless anyone still addressing Plastician by the way, he said on his Twitter he hasn't even checked since he posted the thread.
Perhaps he realised that calling a lot of people who have supported him both financially and as fans for years "pricks" might not have come off too well?twitter wrote:djplastician Plastician
@djmadd I still think people are missing the point I am making though. They're now moaning at my post.

this sums up everything, the point of this thread from plasticians side is pointless. really no need for this, just an attempt to crawl from the woodwork and stir things up.south3rn wrote:every post he made that wasn't promoting a mix was complaining about something.
dunno whats worse, the irony of his essay on the first page or the fact its gone to ten pages. seriously, some people in the scene are worse than the listeners they slate.

Only read the first couple of pages but all I have to say is I agree completely with what Pete said.
What the fuck is 89bpm music doing in Dubstep. Or anything between 120 and 130. It isn't Dubstep and frustrating to go through when buying 12" from Chemical.

I gotta agree that sometimes the wolves do go all out and it turns into some classroom tomfoolery style bitching n jestin'.
The reason why I dont post here much anymore is not because of the wolfpack attitude, or the same done to death threads, its because I find myself tearing my hair out trying to hold back on issues that need to be addressed desperately.
**edit: these issues being the state of dubstep today, the new listener demographic, rahrahrahahaah bleh bleh blah blah same old shit
