So i listened to the whole new korn lp...

Post by deadly_habit » Sat Dec 03, 2011 9:39 pm

you can too here http://www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk/korn/premiere/
and i have a feeling this thread will devolve into hating etc, but not being a skrillex fan i can say production wise his tunes are the only ones that stood out
i wanted to like it from a production standpoint since there is so much talent behind the scene on it, but i was left with nothing standing out
not spor, not noisia, not 12th planet, not excision or datsik
it sounded like they took all these talents that have distinct sounds and all dumbed it down into something generic sounding which is a shame
the lyrics meh pretty standard old korn fare which is pretty tired by now and i grew up loving them
it's sad to say it doesn't really work as a korn lp and it wouldn't work even as a standalone instrumental lp either imo

anyone else feel similar or differently? and can we keep this mature and not into an arguing match please...

Get Up sounds decent from a rock'ish jittery screetching point of view it really doesn't have place in dubstep tho

tension is the only tune on the whole lp that is semi dubstepish as it's not overpowered by guitars all over the place
it's a well produced lp, just when you see a list like it has as far as producers go i guess i figured they'd get more of a forefront in the sound since it's supposed to be a "dubstep" lp
also what was the drummer doing for the whole lp? -w-

had a listen - oh dear.

Just doesn't work imo, both "sounds" are heavily out of context with each other. Like I said in another thread, Korn should have just packed it in after Life Is Peachy, which is when their last drop of talent and innovation evaporated.

well issues was decent, but i mean they lost one of their guitarists to becoming a born again. that's when they should have packed it in

Can't figure out which is worse: the tunes or davis' voice... think he actually makes the whole thing suck even more, wow.
Tension and Bleeding out are the ones I find to stand out.

skrillex and kill the noise are the ones that seem to fit with korn imo from the lp standpoint

PFFFT. it's a super mess of shit that doesn't sit with each other. And now I'm not even referencing the songs, just the mixdowns. They've even somehow got every song sounding the exact same mixdown wise.(which is boooooring when it comes to "electronic music")
it´s like watered down brostep with watered down "metal".

well with an lp you want it to all be similar mixdowns, remember this is a major label of one band, not an electronic compilation

I felt like the songs had barely any flow. Too much going on, as much as I hate to say it, the Skrillex and 12th Planet songs were the "best". And there is a typo on the soundcloud link. (12th plane)

the one thing i will say mixing wise is that it seems like they thinned out the backing tunes by the producers in favor of the sounds of the guitars and bass from fieldy instead of balancing them which does take away from it, but then again it's a korn lp not a compilation of the producers like i said before

It all sounds the same. Same tempos. Mess of sounds that just don't sound good. No good song writing. Davies voice sounds awful. Drums sound horrible. Just nothing works.

I thought at least maybe Noisia could have bought some interesting sounds into it even though it's a flawed concept but sill it's just bland crap that doesn't work.

Even now I can't really bring to mind what anything of the tracks sound like. Kind of wish Korn could realise that it just seems like a cash in too. From what I can tell they seem to act like they're doing something grounbreaking when it actually sounds half arsed as fuck

a bunch of people have said it already but it didn't seem to "fit" for me. seeing the producers they worked with gave me a bit of hope, but i feel like their styles didnt really get to shine (aside from the feed me and skrillex tunes). this was supposed to be labeled a dubstep LP? none of these songs would stand up as instrumentals and it doesn't really have any dubstep feel to it aside from synthesized drums and the producers he worked with.

yeah if you're a metal band, but if you're supposed(like "dubstep" fused with metal) to be something else, it's really kind of borings...
I don't feel like having to post a huge list of major label artists(pop, rock, electronic, WHATEVA) not having a similar(or, the same) mixdown on every song. To me, most of the mixdowns on the album sound really cheap-o. and yes, I listened to every song. There was maybe 1-3 songs that had above average mixdowns. the cheapest is probably "my wall" with excision.
