Tekken 2 was my all time favourite. This came a close second:

tomba and rayman are both awesome, no doubt about it. xenogears is essential playing if you dig ps1 rpgs imo but it's a bit uncompromising (so many random battles and that second disc can test your patience). final fantasy ix though is my personal favorite of the series - definitely worth checking out. may not be the best ff, but it's got a unique charm and character that was lacking in the ff's of the ps1/ps2 era.

Agree 100%. Ff9 has this magic the others don't. Beautiful and very cinematic.

Good gameplay as well, especially after FF8. I loved Tetra Master (the card game) and the Excalibur II challenge. Might have to revisit this game over the summer lol.

i never owned a playstation (got nintendo 64 instead, was a bit of a pain in the ass since no-one ever had games for it for borrow) but the boy a few doors away had one and we used to play crash bandicoot on it. was amazing although i've always been total shit at playing video games.

^team buddies is not a classic by any means, I'm curious to know if anyone else played it tho. all the characters had really horrible, crude british language.

I was really young when I got my psOne so I kind of missed the point of a lot of games on there...

strangely i have really fond memories of FFVIII, didn't really get anywhere with it just liked the music and running into different monsters, also remember being exceptionally frustrated with Metal Gear solid and again could never get anywhere with it.. I played it properly a year or two ago and loved it though!! Could never get my licence in Driver but still loved the free roaming mode thing.......... I have this hilarious memory of playing it and my grandpa who was suffering from dementia watching and complaining about the driving standards of people these days

so yeh the games that are classics or essential to me are the ones that I could actually play.. from memory that's Team Buddies, Crash Bandicoot 1, 2 & 3, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater.
