Radio Promo Etiquette

Post by sillybitch » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:07 pm

Cool,

Just got into doing a radio show on student radio and was wondering if there is any conventions which govern the practice of getting hold of radio promos of unreleased material. Should you contact artists directly, or go through their agents. Are artists inclined to give out promos, do they see it as a hassle if your not some huge radio show ie. radio 1 etc. Is there a format you should stick to when asking for them? Do most labels have databases of contacts who they email out promos too if so how do you go about getting on them, they dont just let anyone in surely?

Found a reasonable amount of info on getting dubplates out there to the radios and labels etc. but theres not much concerning how the process runs in reverse, ie. a newly founded record label. If anyone could shed any light so we dont make fools of our selves that would be swell.

Cheers xxx

best thing you can do is introduce yourself well and givep lenty of examples of what you do. tell them when your show airs, typical listener stats etc. this is only for the stubborn producers, a lot of people will send you tunes but you ain't gonna get vips and exclusives until you're a bit bigger.

for now, theres plenty of people here on DSF that will happily send you some tunes
