Tips for taking my production to the next level

Post by invisibled » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:52 am

Hey Guys,

I've just finished up a 4 song ep, and though i am proud of it, i want to spend some time learning new things and getting better before going and making some new songs.

One thing that interestes me a lot these days is the phasing and movement some of the big producers are doing (see Owsla) with their (Reece?) basses. Check out this video at 2:45 when the song starts:

I've searched far and wide looking for stuff, basically it's automating filters and effects like a phaser right? and when i say basically, i mean basic. I'm looking to improve my knowledge of these sorts of ultra polished sounds, as it seems not a lot of people know how to do that kind of stuff.

Any advice, tips, videos, articles etc, fire em at me! :)

Kills the noise's new stuff is amazing. Lots of movement in his basslines.
Im skeptical that its just filters.
If you find out op let me know. I too would like to know how this is achieved. :D

The u-he phaser and flanger let you operate in manual mode if you wanna draw curves or record fader movements.

To get to the next level of production all it takes is practice and commitment in terms of the bass your looking for, layering and splitting frequencies is key from what I've played around with.
Here are some topics that are on the bass you want (they really helped me):

Experimenting after reading these topics should hopefully get you close to what you're looking for :)

Almost forgot to mention, if your looking to take the next level in your production a great thing to look at is icicle's masterclass on youtube, might not be as helpful if you aren't in logic or reason, but if you are then I couldn't recommend it more.
