How to become a music producer?

Hello my friends! I came to this forum after being recommended that you guys on here know your stuff.

In the most simplest way i can put it. I want to be an electronic producer, working with Dubstep/Drum&Bass/Electronica etc, i just love the music. I should point out right now i am a PURE beginner, the most i have done has been following a few YouTube tutorials on making some shitey bass line and that's not who i want to be gents. I am willing to invest time, money and patience as i am very passionate about getting started. Although daytime education is not an option as i have a job.

This is the kit i have set up and sorted out ready:

DAW: Ableton Live
VST synthesizers: Massive, Sylenth1
Samples: PLENTY!
Speakers: Yet to purchase
Headphones: Sony 7509HD's
MIDI Keyboard: Alesis Q25
Laptop: CQ60 (Runs fine!)
Soundcard: 5.1 USB Maplins Soundcard

I need your help people, I want to succeed and want to know the most effective way of learning how to be an electronic music producer there is.

start taking piano lessons or even a theory class if you can find one at night! you're not going to be able to do shit but make some cool noises without that knowledge. producing without that knowledge is like trying to be a poet but being illiterate.

You don't need music lessons to press some buttons on your laptop/PC man.

Agreed with drake. Sure you can make a good tune without theory but theory really helps. Being able to construct a good melody is really important and without theory that is unlikely to happen.

So aside from theory, the only online tutorials I would recommend you watch is basic inner workings of your Daw. Any specific bass programming techniques or w/e will just limit you.

Yeah i agree with jrisreal. Learn your daw well. Along with this and theory, it helps to learn about synthesis as well. Other than that, just stick with it and with experience, you'll find yourself getting better.

You dont need any samples or expensive synths, that is waaay off. Grab some free packs, plenty around here and on Dogs on Acid. Spend that money on good monitors and a good sounding room and legal Ablteon. Spend time with the native devices inside Ableton. Killer samples and massive wont make a tune, spending hours upon hours just having fun with the stuff youve got does.

U dont gotta spend money on piano lessons. u can buy books that will teach you. its still spending money but not as much and u can read the book on ur own time

Don't spend more than a week on a song, considering you're just starting. Make a song a day if you can. They may sound shit, but like they say. Practice makes perfect.

don't go to lessons or buy books. search google for ravenspiral theory guide, thats all you need. i didn't know any theory when i started, i still hardly know any now but that deosn't stop me at all

sure you can learn by reading, but you can't replace a good teacher that you can ask [stupid] questions. go for it if you can afford it. usually not more than $40/hr for a good one.

Learn how to coax a top notch performance out of a vocalist, communicate with an engineer on a technical level, know the distinct sounds of different instruments and equipment beyond synths and kick'n'snare sample packs, understand and research musical history in-depth in all areas and know how to create relationships with other artists, producers, DJ's, managers, beyond soundcloud comments stating 'dope tune'.

What would the best book/online guide be for how to learn the keyboard for bigginers?
What would the best book/online guide be for how to learn Ableton Live 8.2?

Any advise on this would really set me on the right track. Thanks again gents!
