Pretty pathetic I thought. From 1 10 when he is just hammering on the pads was painful. Reminded me of when I was a youngun, playing Hypersports on the arcades.
Re: Live Skrillex tune.
yeah i kind of hate the live MPC thing its gimmicky and exciting for about 5 seconds, how about just use the thing to make music, mix it down proper and give it to a DJ .. live shits annoying. never seen any live 808/909 techno acts but i'm betting its not half as good as a great DJ set

saw The Geezer back in 06 doing a live 303 set.....out of this world, better than any DJ set by any of the Liberator DJ's or D.A.V.E. the Drummer.

How do they get the bass to sound squealing & screeching? That's gotta be pretty intense live, bro.

Re: Live Skrillex tune.
I mean being good at mixing is great and all, but I don't want to pay any amount of money to watch some guy turn on a playlist and just spin records (sorry in advance if I misunderstood what you said). if this is the case, I would just stay home and listen to the tracks there. I like to see a live performance, it makes it worth my while. And being that I grew up listening to hip hop I have tremendous respect for anybody who knows their way around an MPC. You don't want to pay to listen to timeless and forthcoming timeless tracks being mixed together perfectly?cmgoodman1226 wrote:I mean being good at mixing is great and all, but I don't want to pay any amount of money to watch some guy turn on a playlist and just spin records (sorry in advance if I misunderstood what you said). if this is the case, I would just stay home and listen to the tracks there. Live mixing, the guys who pick a track to open with and a track to finish with impresses me more than practicing for hours to slam buttons in an order to recreate their own tracks, it's a bit dumb, I mean, come on, it's halfway between a live act and a DJ set, with none of the good bits... just my two shillings.

do you thinking spinning records is turning on a playlistcmgoodman1226 wrote:I mean being good at mixing is great and all, but I don't want to pay any amount of money to watch some guy turn on a playlist and just spin records (sorry in advance if I misunderstood what you said). if this is the case, I would just stay home and listen to the tracks there. the fact that dipset, which at one point boasted talent such as Jim Jones, is now being represented by this garbage saddens me

Re: Live Skrillex tune.
Let me clarify here. First off I never said that mixing or djing was easy (I suck at it). Secondly, my comment about the playlist was more in regards to people like skrillex (seeing that the op's video was a skrillex tune...) I have respect for people who can mix well, but in the end of the day it's just not what I personally want to see when I pay to see a show (if that's what you pay for, more power to you). For me the live experience (or what I want the live experience to be) is more of a show. Go to an RJD2 show. He's got live bands, mixes well, scratches well, and gets on the MPC. THAT is my kind of show. But it doesn't have to be exactly like that. For me that dirtyphonics example is spot on. Gotta buncha guys doing turntablism and not just "mixing perfectly between tunes". While it might take a lot of talent to perfect, there'es just no real excitment in that for me (no disrespect to those who enjoy it, it's just my personal preference) .wobbles wrote:do you thinking spinning records is turning on a playlistcmgoodman1226 wrote:I mean being good at mixing is great and all, but I don't want to pay any amount of money to watch some guy turn on a playlist and just spin records (sorry in advance if I misunderstood what you said). if this is the case, I would just stay home and listen to the tracks there. well i'd definitely rather see Araab than Skrillex, no matter what the hell is going on.. and RJD2 of course , way before i'd go see either of them... but i don't get what you mean about the turntablism in dirtyphonics.. that wasn't really mixing as much as it was performing, and i didn't see any wank-tastic scratching frenzies... they just played filthy tunes live, with precision ... anyway i guess there's a lot of approaches to electronic music performance and many points in between the poles. fucking id love to see RJD2

Re: Live Skrillex tune.
Yeah I was mistaken for using turntablism, but that's my point. It does'nt have to be scratching, just some sort of performance aside from mixing in and out of tracks is what I like to see. It's not like I get pissed off and storm out when a DJ doesn't do this, it's just something I'd rather see. But yeah RJD2 was nice, pretty sure there wasn't a single instrument didn't play for a song or 2 during the show (except for drums), and what's more is he played them all well. I play a few instruments, but only one of them with any resemblance of talent.-[2]DAY_- wrote:cmgoodman1226 wrote:

Re: Live Skrillex tune.
You obviously don't know who Araab Muzik is. LOL! You think he just sits at home and pounds at his box all day? He's made beats for artists such as Cam'ron, Vado, The Diplomats, Hell Rell, Jadakiss, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous and more. A little google search wouldn't hurt much-[2]DAY_- wrote:yeah i kind of hate the live MPC thing its gimmicky and exciting for about 5 seconds, how about just use the thing to make music, mix it down proper and give it to a DJ .. live shits annoying. never seen any live 808/909 techno acts but i'm betting its not half as good as a great DJ set

He could have worked with the pope for all I care. I agree with 2Day, this sort of stuff gets old really quick.
Jeff Mill's has been doing the live 909 thing for a while with mixed results, mostly positive in my view.
