god dammit shouldnt have even mentioned skream's output on the label.
definitely not what this conversation should be about.
point is. tempa releases a diverse palette of sounds that at times is confusing, yet chocked full of quality.
can this please not be another skream-bashing thread?

I always thought Tempa was like an offshoot label or a label owned by Rinse.FM or something. So I figured they would be a label that would release pretty much anything they wanted to.

I agree with this and I agree that other labels have a greater coherence in their output. I think that Tempa has been around longest? their output will naturally be more diverse, I also think other labels are catching up diversifying their output, look at the release of Pursuit Grooves on Tectonic, a very good release but not one we would consider a Tectonic release I don't think.
Admittedly I don't get the label hopping that many artists do and I'm not sure why a label would want to be restricted to a particular sound.

tempa's output has never confused me, what's confusing is that people think it's confusing that they release dubstep records of different styles.
although, i too would be just as happy if they only released horsepower tunes.

Sure I read somewhere (possibly on here) that it is licensed to Skrillex's label. Certainly shows on the label's releases on their site.

Always thought "that sound", late garage/early dubstep, didn't live long enough. 2000-2004 has probably the highest concentration of my favourite songs. Was mixing in my bedroom the other day, near enough every release I pulled out was a Tempa release.

Tempa are one of the best labels out there imo, varied but solid releases, artwork is always sick too.

I actually liked Anticipate. I really would have no problem if it got lisenced to Skrillex's label. Just because Skrillex's music isn't that good to some doesn't necessarily mean he has a bad ear for music.

kinda off topic question ive always wanted an answer to, is the sarah lockhart associated with tempa and rinse youngsta's sister? would explain a lot of the connections imo haha

She is co-owner of Tempa/FWD and manager of Rinse and is also Youngsta's sister. I found this out when the riots broke out in the UK this year.

On topic: If I ever had the chance to start a label I'd follow the Tempa approach, why limit yourself to a single sound and not capitalize on other opportunities that may allow you to take future risks (constant innovation is needed in an industry) on younger/newer talent at a later time? Releasing quality productions is their apparent maxim, as it should be, everything else follows that.
