Re: What do you do for a living & how did you get there?
I rent out a sound system. I got here by working on oil rigs as a dimensional control surveyor and getting sick of it. I enrolled in college doing sound engineering and then I bought a rig this year. The pay is shite.. mainly due to me not pimping it enough. Need something else as well tbh.

R&D for a search software company.
Got here by doing a maths PhD, working for a company that makes telephone switches for a couple of years and then getting called up by someone who knew me asking if I wanted to do this job instead...
Decent pay and interesting work, if you like that sort of thing.

I'm a sales consultant (posh way of saying a rep) for Wurth UK. I basically drive round to customers selling industrial consumables. How did I get here? Job I had was shit, and I seem to be fairly OK at selling stuff, even though I fucking hate it. Only reason I'm doing it is because it's allowing me to save money to go towards a music production course at Point Blank or SAE. I remember once being told that sometimes in order to get to where you want to be in life, you have to go where you dont want to go, and it's stuck with me.

Technical accounts manager for contract R&D work. I basically find out what a customer's development needs are, put together plans for them and make sure the team delivers what's needed. In theory anyway. Unfortunately, it's morphed into me doing all the project planning, solution finding, results analysis and finding new sales as well. They've also restructured the place recently (we restructure every 3 months or so, but this was a major change involving my group), so it's all hazy at the moment who's going to be doing what next year. So not very fun at the moment. Getting bored anyway, need to find something new to do. I've been putting off leaving because I keep hoping for the company to take off and for me to reap some of the benefits. I've been waiting for 4 years now.
Started out as a technology developer but moved into this role 2 years ago. Was looking for a job after my PhD in Chemical Engineering, they offered me one, I took it. The place used to be awesome to work at.

market research for fmcgs.
how i got here? enjoyed doing research during my masters, liked art - thought id combine them both by doing research for a museum (bad idea, made me resent both), then moved to london and couldnt be bothered thinking up a new career so sticked with the research angle.
alright but not gonna do it forever

I wait tables at a high end restaurant. It's not what I want to do for a career, but it's probably the highest paying job a guy with no trade school experience or computer skills can get while I'm in school.

..the more I think about/practice my trade...
the more I want to come at it from an anthropological direction..
as opposed to a product/manufacturing position...
...but I really don't want to buy anymore school right now.
I mean - I really like school and learning...
I just - don't clean up well...I should work with criminally insane children or something..
That's why I think I could be friends with Kode 9.

Officially I'm a Radiology & Radiotherapy Maintenance Technician... basically I fix and maintain linear accelerators, touch on X-Ray/ultrasound etc. as well but we've just had a new guy start to take over from that.
Always wanted to work in IT before, and I did as my previous job was a Computer Engineer for Renault, and I studied IT for 3 years at college. However got made redundant due to lack of work and I applied for 12 jobs over the following few months, the only non-IT job being the hospital one... and that's the one I got was well out of my depth when I started tbh but been there 2 years now and enjoying it, although there's still shit loads to learn.

I didn't go to Uni... it's not a big deal. Just pick something to get skilled in and run with it... I chose IT because I was always pulling my PC to bits and thought I might as well be getting paid for it. Started out as a temp for AOL with nothing more than a CV saying I knew how computers worked and had a C and a couple of Es at A Level!anadin-xtra wrote:everyone seems to have such quality jobs...i'm pretty disillusioned after not going uni tbh....currently work in a warehouse and going to be a waiter in feb

I am a school nurse. I have two schools with an approximate total of 2,000 kinder-6th grade students with health concerns ranging from asthma, anaphylaxis, seizure, diabetes, ADHD, and more. I have 25-30 special ed kids. Unfortunately, it doesn't pay as much as a regular hospital nurse ($30,000 less). Fortunately, I'm happy (I can see myself retiring here).
My previous job was with Home Depot (while going to junior college). I was at the receiving department and I raced/drifted forklifts (I wish). I loved that job. Prior to that I worked at 4 photo labs and Sam Goody.

I'm a... Musician (Unemployed)...

Nah but seriously, I'm in my last year of compulsory education before starting sixth form until I'm eighteen, studying Music Tech, Music, IT and / or Biology! I already do the sound / lighting (I'm in charge muwahaha) for any productions in / around our area, and before anyone lol's at this, it's not just 2 generic dimmers into plug sockets, it's Vista desks, Jands Vista, Mac 500's, 250's, parcans, scrollers, spots, LED's, you name it! Ahaha not too mention our lovely PA system and Trace Elliots

Hoping to get DJ equipment ASAP so I can start doing that as a spare time job (when I'm good enough, weddings and such) and perhaps progressing further, until I'm a signed producer Ahahaa, but I would love to work in a recording studio or as a mastering engineer one day
