Hysterikz - Neurofunk (Neurofunk, Raznips)

Post by Hysterikz » Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:45 pm

Soundcloud

Hey guys, this is my attempt at Neurofunk music. I know it's not really good, but I'd still love some feedback and tips.

I found that working with reason can be difficult as the distortion applied from Scream can be either too much or way too little, so I had tons of difficulty getting just the right amount. I also had trouble making the bass "transform" and I still don't know how to properly do that. What I ended up doing was modulating the Mid knob on the Scream 4 distortion unit, the Low Pass Filter Freq., the Band Pass Filter Freq., and the Damage Control on Scream 4. Anyone know a more...efficient way of accomplishing this?

Even though this was difficult, I did learn to EQ my stuff a little better, and also how to mix and limit stuff so that it sounds a little better. So hopefully my next track will be even better :)

I'd appreciate any tips or feedback!

EDIT: Oh, and if anyone knows, what is the proper progression for a Neurofunk track? I found myself at a loss when trying to figure this out. O.o

Very nice first attempt dude!

I personally wouldn't automate the mid knob, and you can experiment with adding more subtle distortions, phasers, notch sweeps etc. Each layer of new fx adds to the sound but it can make it or break it... Don't add another layer until your current one is perfect, if the first layer of fx is crap new layers won't fix it most of the time. You might need to take out some frequencies here and there to avoid harsh tones.

What do you mean by progression? A lot of neurofunk is like organized chaos, normal 4/4 beat with a lot of hectic variations.

I hope this helps

Nice, I'll try your tips for the bass. For the progression, I meant is there generally a rule to follow in that you have an 8 bar intro and then so on?
