Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is probably the best Batman movie tbh, it has the best mix between darkness and complexity and all the while maintaining the integrity of the comics. The whole Batman: the animated series is bloody brilliant, have to re watch them all again soon.

Darren Aronofsky actually wrote a screenplay for this, orignally he was gonna take on the trilogy (what Nolan's done), but apparently it was 'too dark', it's actually online somewhere. I do love the Nolan ones but I reckon Aronofsky would have done a grand job.

batman needs the comic aspect otherwise its just a film noir with a ridiculous premise of a man who dresses up as a Bat

i spose The Watchmen worked cos it was an obvious parody of the superhero idea

a straight up nightmarish film noir with hint of 'comic' relief (sorry), i could see how that would be too dark

Yea gunna look into this it would have been got but would have had a completely different vibe to nolans version. Would have been way more emotional I'm guessing

I hope if Scarecrow's in this, he scares me slightly more than in Arkham Asylum..

Didn't really rate year one that much tbh, don't know why. Under the red hood is probably my favourite.
Mask of the phantasm win's for best voice acting talent though, Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill are the definitive batman and joker.

Anne Hathaway can't pull off sexy/mysterious. There's something about her that's just too dainty/pristine.

I thought Watchmen was great. Both the book and the movie.

gotham is meant to be a separate city, Commisioner Gordon is from Chicago in the comics

right but the past 2 were filmed in chicago... easily recognizable parts of the city. Gothams vibe always fit chicago anywho.... despite the name being related more towards NYC. The architecture and grit is wayyyyy more chicago than nyc
