Monitor stands

Post by mmmsure » Mon Dec 19, 2011 9:02 am

Currently looking into floor monitor stands to clear a bit of space on the desk (plus they look nice :) ). Are tripod type stands decent for studio monitoring? Or would they f with the sound due to vibrations etc? Cant imagine theyd be totally solid but seems the cheapest option.. My monitors are KRKs by the way. Any recommendations or opinions or experience appreciated :)

Iv got my KRK Rokit 8 2's sat on these

I wouldn't recommend them if you have KRK 8s because they do feel pretty shakey with all that weight on, but i think if you have the KRK 5's or 6's they would be OK

I made my own monitor stands out of bar stools, I found some short bar stools at lowes (about 3 feet tall) bought 4 of those set the first two down like you would normaly to sit on, then set the other two on top of these upside down so the seats are screwed together and the feet of the second bar stool are up in the air. Now you just have to make a platform out of plywood to sit on the feet of the stool. Sounds stupid but they actually look really good, they've held my rokit 8's for years now and cost less than $100.

I've got my HS80s sitting on them, they are a bit shaky but they have somehow survived more than a few hefty knocks, so even with big ass monitors like mine they are actually pretty sturdy!
