Ableton Live.
Just a little something I wanted to share.
Four years ago, I started using Reason 3, to make music, completely unaware of the complex process that was involved in crafting beats. I set out with no genre, and enjoyed making sounds in Reason.
When I started seriously producing Dubstep and DnB, I started to see that Reason's instruments were getting very limited, compared to the VST's that were available.
About 5 months ago, I upgraded to Logic Pro 9, and found it amazing for creating new and unique sounds.
However, I was still curious about Ableton Live, since so many producers use it, and since it has gotten so much praise, so I decided to try out the demo.
On first look, I hated it, and went straight back to Logic. I got curious a few days later, and gave it a proper chance, getting used to everything, and I realized what an amazing piece of software it really is, especially for genres such as Dubstep and Drum and Bass, where there is a lot going on.
I have bought it today, even after only buying Logic not to long ago, this is how good it is.
If you are a Live user, you are probably saying "what's your point, bro?" , but I want to raise awareness to all non live users, who haven't fully tried Live out.
I think the thing that made me switch so fast to it is the fact that you can automate any parameter with EASE simply by clicking on the parameter you want say in FM8, and drawing the automation in, on the sequencer, no scrolling through long lists of parameters, and having the awkward windowed navigation through automation like Logic. This is sooo helpful in production, since for the majority of my basses, I like automating parameters to bring movement to the sound(automation further than lfo to filter cutoff) Automating things like the EQ in Live creates new and awesome sounds, and takes so little time.
Just to show an example of the insane automation I've been experimenting with, check the clip below. The bass is a simple enough patch in Massive, but all the movement is from the automation.
Soundcloud
Anyway, to conclude my seemingly pointless rant, if you don't use Live as of now, try out the demo, spend a bit of time learning it, and see if you love it too! I know myself and a lot of producers were well aware of Live, but never really tried it out, as we were comfortable in whatever DAW we were using.
P.S. Although it might not mean much to you, I created and EXACT Skrillex growl bass using the method that he actually uses to create the bass(Purely for my own curiosity in sound design, not to use) , so if you are up for a tutorial, I'll happily make a decent, not drawn out one.

Re: Ableton Live.
i recently just switched to ableton also after using FL for 6 years and i love it. At first i though it was all wacky, but now its so easy, learning from youtube tuts i got a agood understanding of it, its so beneficial to workflow. The one thing that sold me is that FM8 finally matched the tempo of my project
! in FL FM8s tempo was always stuck at 120, AND i can now use my mpk49 to its full potential with the transport controls. Its so easy to resample, i love warping things, groove pool is awesome, plus it looks all cool and futuristic and shit. NO turning back now!
oh and NOISESTORM. if you figure out a way to automate points in FM8s envelopes let me know, i dont think its possible so im just resampling in ableton (which is so easy) and manually automating the points.

I bought the suite, but it was an upgrade, so cost less, plus there is a Christmas sale on too, for a 25% reduction.
I bought all my plugins, mainly using Komplete 8.

Re: Ableton Live.
Wow, this topic came in just in time =). I am at the point where I want to switch to Ableton too. The only thing that worries me, is that I have to start all over again. I have been a FL studio 8 user for quite a while now, and I know this DAW very well. I just hope that I'm not taking an unneccesary step here. I still do not exacly know what the exact benefits are for switching to ableton. I followed some tutorials from Ascian so I am pretty familiar with the layout of Ableton, but I'm far from being able to find everything I need.
I'm also not very well informed about sample rates etc, so I don't see the reward for switching yet. Maybe one of you guys could help convince me why. The only thing that has driven this choice is curiousity.

Sometimes it's a good thing to get out of your comfort zone and try a new DAW that you aren't too familiar with. There is a great 30 day full trial, which unlocks all the features, even saving. Try it out, and see if you like it!
