Re: How To Make This Sound - December 2011
@Euma, that's probably just a heavily distorted midrange bass with a formant (most likely NI Massive) with a fast attack that's been resampled and the percussive part nipped and repeated. Basically make a bass patch with a fast attack, play around with the decay, then shove a ton of bitcrusher/ saturator/ distortion on it, resample it and put it in a sampler. A good way to quickly make a pattern like that is to use an arpeggiator with the interval at 1 so it just repeats the same note, then automate the rate.
Also I would love to know how Rustie does... everything. His sound is so lush, and while still having a lot of the aggressiveness and in-your-face-ness of "brostep" and all that midrange wobbly stuff it manages to not be too distorted or cheesy. What does rustie do to make his sounds have such crispy, tasty top end? I'm assuming it's just lots of paralell processing but what exactly would you do, just add tons of saturators?
This song is a great example of what I'm talking about, the euro-trance style pad that comes in after the drop at 2:10 is so sexy in my opinion, how does he make it so crispy?
Another example, the similar sound that first comes at 00:58
Very lush in the highs and high mids. Is this just a lot of saturation/ paralell processing?

How to make bass in Massive Attack - Paradise Circus (zed dead remix) ????
I'm wondering if ya guys can give me any clues on where to attack this bass line. I've been using massive for awhile. Sounds like a reese style bass (detuned saws) being modulated a bit. I can hear phaser, with stereo widening at end of the chain...but how do you get that raw goodness I'm wondering because it doesnt like any of the stuff I've been able to make. Also love how it kinda 'rips' as it pitches up and down, like right at the drop. sick!~

Could someone explain to me how to make this sound, I know it is probably really easy but I don't know where to start, I haven't been producing long so.
It is the rising pitch kinda sound straight after the speech sample at 00:28
Thanks in advance.

Hello all, I was listening to this song on my mp3 player earlier today and thought to myself, "damn how the hell did he make that?" The sound I'm mentioning is most prevalent at 2:46 until a bit after 3:00.
It's hard for me to explain what the hell that sound is, but it's fucking badass. It's that crazy stuff high up in the frequency spectrum, I can't think of a word to describe it. Maybe someone can help me wrap my head around it. I'm using Ableton Suite, and have albino, absynth, gladiator, massive etc. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Alright, I feel like an absolute whore for posting a zomboy tune but whatthefuck.
What I want to know is how to get that specific motion of sub bass at :55 "the drop". I just want it get it so soon as the drop hits, the first sound is very bright, then lowers down. I don't want to call it a growl because what I really want to know mostly is how to get the sub bass to do a little bounce then slowly decrease down. This might be a bit too vague so let me describe what I want using letter size and a random string of letters.
YYYEEAAARRGHUUUGGHHuuuuughGGHGHH
But I don't care about the growl, I just want to know how to get the sub bass to move with the "YRARGH". I can get my sub bass to drastically rise but I can't get it to fall like that.
Hopefully this is clear enough.

Re: How To Make This Sound - December 2011
Hello guys, so I'm wondering about how to achieve this "back and forth" effect that many artists use, including autolaser, sonny moore
etc use.
Some examples:
at 1:30
0:15
I'm not interested in making these sounds, I'm interested about how that effect is done. Filter automation doesn't seem to do the back and forth, it always gives the same results. Also in massive I get this effect by adjusting the intensity sometimes, but I still dont get the general idea. I guess I'm missing something pretty basic stuff.
Anyways thanks in advance, and happy holidays peeps!

Because it's been a whole 6hrs and no one has answered your question?
Re: How To Make This Sound - December 2011
Because all I see is requests here, and no solution basically. Also I don't think I'm asking for a certain sound, I'm asking for a production technique to create that effect (if that makes sense).. anyways no offense, I just don't really see this working!wub wrote:render wrote:wub, this thread is dead..

The last thread worked fine. This ones just full of fairly new guys asking very how to make similar sounds (asides from the Rustie thing, and few others)

Sounds like the pitch modulating to me, if tyou use massive, an envelope on the pitch making it go up with the attack then back down with the decay, gliding between notes should work as well, might need to mess with the glide duration and try to get it a bit longer fror it to sound good

Re: How To Make This Sound - December 2011
To add to the above post, there has been multiple instances of people doing tutorials on replicating this exact sound with FM8 as an FX plugin using the Talk Wah effect, (you could also use Guitar Rig, which has the exact same thing in it) and a cabinet. So basically it's modulation of the pitch and the formants.

Not a big fan of Zomboy but this track goes hard:
I was wondering about the heavily distorted talking wobble at 1:29. I've gotten close in Massive, but his just sounds way more hard & agressive. Any tips woud be great.
