sonic arts: found out the reason, the sub synth was at c2 not c1-c0 so it was mostly a mid hitting, easy mistake easy fix. And yeah that's the one I checked out. the melody is beautiful, along with the progression and the synth, good job.
daftendirekt - amazing for being 15 mate! keep it up, I would grime up that bassline little bit more, seems a little generic, everything is very nice though!
Peri - you need to give feedback to recieve feedback. but, I'll give it a shot, seems off beat with the drum progression, very sparatic, make sure the durms go together with the bassline, the kcik needs to be compressed more, bassline is not bad but a little too "brosteppish" for me, kinda skeptic that you made those synths with only 2 songs behind ya. But who am I to judge, good job keep it up

PeriKardium - Work on your drum placement, the snare doesn't sound very natural. Also you work on your kick. On the 8th bar of the drop you could have a different sounding synth in a higher octave play a melodic part. It's typical but it'll sound better. The part after the drop sounds flowing and natural so good job on that.

Sonic Arts - Not much to say, except that maybe at 2.21 you could of picked things up a notch and gotten the drum hat playing more and more open. But, this might not be that kind of song. Very chill and I like it. It got more going at 3.03 so you did what I was hoping to hear. Good melodies.

daftendirekt - I wish there was a snare. I hear something that's good enough on the second drop. The wobbles pitch is a little hard to tell, but it's not a terrible sound. Maybe work on that sound. Also the melody throughout sounds like it isn't going anywhere. At some point it has to feel like it's going somewhere or changing.

Cthulhu - I guess after the drop drums start to sound more panned but the synths are very centered. Make em wider. Also keep practicing on your synth design, drums. DSF, Audio Tuts website have useful information as well as Computer Music, Future Music, and Music Tech. Sometimes you can find them in PDF versions online, or they can be found at some book stores.

dogmancar - Weird arrangement, clap kinda being hit all the time. 1.10 has a nice melody. Sounds are not terrible but could be worked on. Keep reading and sometimes practice. When you feel inspiration and have made something cool, buckle down and work on it for a long time if you can.

Here's mine.

Here's something I started working on while traveling on Christmas eve.

The levels are pretty bad because I've been on headphones, but I'm pretty happy so far, it's the only song which has given me the confidence to upload.

Edit : Re uploaded so it's louder.

Cheers for the input guys.

dogmancar - Nice epic feel dude. Something I have tried to make stuff less flat etc. is send it to a return with a slight phaser (or something like that) on it. Really nice track, drums and melody work really well, very soundtracky till the drop. Bass sounds at the heavier part could do with some more work, distortion or something, and an arp maube. Nice tune so far.

Airgonaut - Agree with clairvoyeur and Reliq. Melodies and synthwork is beautiful. Good work so far dude.

clairvoyeur - totally know that feeling man lol. I like this so far man, very chilled. 3.30 onwards is gorgeous and those decending notes are awesome. Intro takes a wee bit too long for me. Vocal chops are awesome.Could do with more bass, just personal taste buy. Nice one.

Reliq - dude I really like this, very ambient and strange. But I'm sorry to say, I don't think I can suggest anything lol.

AcidRat - Very nice so far man.

MaZa1 - I agree with dogmancar.

dogmancar - Love the synths basses etc Melodies too, just think the track needs beefed up as a whole(around that fat bass) and maybe a little more definition.

Cthulu - This has swagger man. Will sound great with more punchy, beefy drums, can't wait to hear it.

daftendirekt - Very nice man. Kick could have little deeper range of EQ, but thats personal taste really. I like the samples a lot, though they could be a smidge(little bit) louder. Nice melodies and synthwork. Good one man.

Okay dokey, here's my tune, any feedback on snares would be most appreciated as I struggle getting the sound and level placement right(no monitors don't help haha). Cheers.

The arrangment was actually intended to be wierd because I based the idea on the song "grinnin in your face" buy son house. In the song there was no instrumentation just clapping, so I figured I'd use a bunch of clapping under the vocals, but then when I went to do the other drum parts it sounded really mismatched with the constant clap.

@daftendirekt- thanks man. Its awesome to have something I'm doing compared to a great song like that one.

eldoogle: Sounding good, the vocal is nice, and I like the pad notes, although it isn't Dubstep, the production is pretty solid all around, nice job.

DJ Sampletank: Sounding nice man, the snare sounds nice and clunky, a bit muffled, but it actually works in this track. I'd work on getting those basses a little less static sounding- they sound a bit precise, try to get some shuffle or something to make them sound a little more dynamic. Still nice though.

mthrfnk: Nice and chilled, and that snare sounds sick, as do the cymbals. 9/10 on the production, very nicely done.

FluidMoShun : Wow, sounding really cool, different! Nice job, haven't really heard anything like this before. I really like it. Not much to improve on really, you seem to have a good knowledge of production.

dogmancar: This needs quite a bit of work, the drums are barely audiable and have no punch at all, the bass is very muddy, and the notes are pretty bland. Try to EQ the bass, until it is a lot clearer and use a different kick and snare sample, to get maximum punch.

Airgonaut: Lovely chilled start, that filtered beat is really nice. Chords are dreamy, and the whole atmosphere is just great. Nice man, I really enjoyed this one.

clairvoyeur: Diggin' this one, love the vocal edits, I think if you finished this one up it would be a tune! Nice work.

Reliq: Not my style, but I liked it, apart from the high notes, that are out of tune with the rest of the track. Kind of distracts from the rest of the tune. But as I say, I'm no judge as this isn't my area of expertise.

Here is my track, something I'm working on for my upcoming EP. I'd love to see what you all think of it so far, any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks for all the feedback I keep getting on my tracks, especially the SoundCloud comments and favourites, I really appreciate them. :W:

My feedback for others:
@PeriKardium: Nice pianos, maybe cut some of the delay to stop it getting muddy. Your drums need work - both in sound and time. Try making them punchier and getting your snares in time, they seem off. The vocals sound good too. After the drop try varying up your hats and snares, the drum pattern is way too regular. Work on it and it could come out sounding awsm.
@eldoogle: Nice intro, I liked the cutting og the vocals for the build. The main synth seems a bit plain to me, I'd try widening it, maybe layer some white noise? I like the bass that comes in later, but things get a bit muddled at some points where the synth and bass play together around 3:00ish.
@Fifth Paradox: Nice and chilled man, I really like whatever the main sound is before the bass at 1:09, can't tell whether it's a synth or a stretched up sample. I'd build more suspense before 1:09 when the heavy bass come in, to create more of a drop.
@DJ Sampletank: Intro sounds Nintendo-esque :P The percussion sounds good, I like the way you slowly introduce elements like hats. Imo I think the drop should come before 1:15, try slimming the intro but keep the flow. As for the drop, I'd turn down your synth distortion slightly, otherwise your bass variations are good.

Below is a new WIP from me, kind of a Nero style vibe. It's only a buildup @ 140bpm, no drop - I've made both a 140bpm dubstep drop and a 128bpm electro-house drop but both sound kind of shitty atm so I cut them. I want to try and use both, by switching the track tempo for the second drop, any thoughts on that? Any other feedback, especially on SC, would be awsm:

@Cthulhu really cool sounds but cut the high end juuuust a little bit and add a big sub!!!!
@DJ Sampletank snares sound good. the intro wobbles seem kind of nursery rhymeish though :P
@Reliq i think the first part and the second part don't work together very well. i think that if you made the drums in the second part punchier you could have a real banger!! the first part nice too but i sort of forgot i was listening to it after a while
@acidrat very cool so far but after the big B-B-B-BAASSSS i think you owe it to your song to put a huge sub in it
@ eldoogle quite nice!!! the lead sound that comes in around 230 is a little harsh though

dogmancar: I changed that start, is this even near of what u meant?
I also changed the kick samples, some1 here said it doesnt sound good or something and i noticed that too, also snares got kicked out and took new samples.
Found a "new" EQ that suits better for me, atleast i think so

Gday All,

@accordionfan - Fuckin' sick tune mate, my only criticism that according to my headphones (DT-990s) which I use to produce on, the bass is a little loud, I would personally turn it down a notch, other than that as I said, sick tune and keep it up.

@AcidRat - Love the growling synth mate, I would cut the frequencies on those crashes and the snare above 7-8k depending, they are over whelming a bit and fairly fatiguing to listen to, other than that keep up the good work, especially with that growl.

@mthrfnk - I left feedback on your soundcloud under "Slarman", cheers

@Noisestorm - Awesome production, sounds nice and clean, don't really have anything negative to say feedback wise except it's not really my style. When's your EP due out? Are you signed or releasing it yourself?

@DJ Sampletank - I would have to agree with Noisestorm re the snares here. If I don't think something sounds quite right, I try and EQ out things I don't like, maybe add another sample in. If you have no luck, I start fresh with new samples for the snare. Ggood work and keep it up!

Well I haven't posted a WiP for a good 4 months, haven't really come up with anything that I've personally enjoyed coupled with writers block, dry season it must be. But here's my latest one, all criticisms are welcomed.

Cheers guys,

Sam

@noisestorm thats definitely my style and I love it, keep up the great work!
@AcidRat I would change the intro to something not quite as hard. something that will make your drop just blow up and blow my mind, magically ripping my pants off.
@Filth Paradox Add a bit of change into it, that way it wont throw me in a trance.
@PeriKardium Thats pretty damn amazing for your third track, If that was my third track, then they would call me skrillex by now. I think next step is to start to add more variety of sounds to your composition.

While reading this thread, I noticed the amount of great criticism on tracks. Well, Heres mine :D open to any and all remarks.

If you have anything regarding types of synths, tutorials ect.. that you think I should check out and learn some new techniques/sounds, then feel free to let me know! I love learning different kinds of sounds and techniques but unfortunately youtube is filled with bad tutorials that just waste my time and remove all or any patience I have.

bozoy: The composition is actually pretty good, and all the synths sound quality too. my only criticism is that the kick is pretty much non-existent, on my setup at least. It sounds like your sub might be covering it up, so it might help to try a little side-chaining. or alot. that might sound pretty good too. anyway, nice job overall.

lowphat: the middle section with your wobble bass has a nice groove. I might add some variations on your drum beat on every 4th measure to make it a little less repetitive though. nit-pickiness aside, it's a pretty chill track with a nice atmosphere.

maza1: your synths sound pretty solid, and the EQing on everything sounds just about right. it wouldn't hurt to make some variations on your snare every now and then, though.

Yes, I will youtube side chaining and such. I was noticing that my drops don't have that "boom" factor, how do you think I could come upon atleast making the first initial note big and dirty, to set the pace for the rest of the drop because the hardest part for me is laying down that first note (the sound of it).

Sorry guys, forgot to post some feedback.

Noisestorm- Liking that alot, nice production.

Sampletank- It's coming along nicely but the hihats in the end section around 3:20 need a better arrangement, they aren't flowing well with the other sounds.

Mthrfnk- Sounding good, very nero-esq like you said. My only criticism is the kick drum. I feel it needs the lower frequencies to be boosted to give it a bit more bass. Either that or turn it up a little bit because it's kind of being drowned out by everything else.

So I left these comments on your soundclouds as well, in case you never see them here

@Fifth Paradox - The synths remind me of Boards of Canada, really classic and nostalgic feeling. The composition itself is fantastic, very laid back chilled out. The gripe I have with it, and it may just be for my own personal tastes, is that the drums sound quite dry when compared to the rest of the piece. Maybe add a slight reverb? Something that wouldn't make them as dry, but not muddy and wishy washy either.

@eldoogle - Very jumpy! Has a sort of electroswing feel to it, which I love! The kick, I think, needs just a BIT more oomph, to come thru everything else. It seems just a bit masked by the sounds around it.
Overall, AWESOME track, well done sir!

@mthrfnk - POWERFUL intro! Big, beefy, majestic, amazing! Can't wait to check out the finished product! What is the sample from, if I can ask? Sounds tight!
