@eldoogle - that bass you have over powers the drums a lot, should fix that

@DJ Sampletank - imo take out the yoi, to me it kills everything, change it for a really girtty bass or something with a growl.

@Noisestorm - no complaints, drums are really nice and punchy and bass seems to fit well, good job

@mthrfnk - seems cool i cant really judge anything else since its just an intro but cool idea

@AcidRat - cool track just really isn't my style tbh

@accordionfan - cool idea, i like the little fx in the drums, those were pretty cool

@MaZa1 - imo those weird wooo siren type thingys are really annoying and people would get turned off by it of course imo

now for my tune its nothing really amazing just a simple tune i did learning my new workflow :)

mannyyyy- standard stuff from you bro, top tune as usual. nothing much i can say really, maybe just boost the top end of the snare a bit but thats all i can think of. nice one pal :)

bozoy- i like the intro, proper creepy dark vibe to it. the track feels really dry though mate, the drums especially. your midrange needs eqing abit as well, it seems to muddy the lower end of the mix slightly too. brilliant ideas and with some work oculd be a really good track.

lowphat- nice tune mate, very dark. turn the sub a bit though, needs some more weight behind the midrange bassline. mixdowns pretty good, not much else i can say really, good effort so far bro

heres my latest wip, very 8bit and heavily influenced by zomby/sbtrkt, lemme know whatcha think-

Are there any specific techniques or videos that you know of that can help me add some moisture to the track as I totally understand where you are coming from. I tried to make it unique and not repetitive but It feels almost like i need something else. but what?

for your midrange, try rolling it off at around 200, thats usually what i do, as for making it less dry just use reverb, but low cut it so it doesnt take up too much space.

Sonic Arts wrote:bozoy: The composition is actually pretty good, and all the synths sound quality too. my only criticism is that the kick is pretty much non-existent, on my setup at least. It sounds like your sub might be covering it up, so it might help to try a little side-chaining. or alot. that might sound pretty good too. anyway, nice job overall.

lowphat: the middle section with your wobble bass has a nice groove. I might add some variations on your drum beat on every 4th measure to make it a little less repetitive though. nit-pickiness aside, it's a pretty chill track with a nice atmosphere.

maza1: your synths sound pretty solid, and the EQing on everything sounds just about right. it wouldn't hurt to make some variations on your snare every now and then, though.
Just started working on a new one. I kind of focused less on the actual sounds and more on the composition, but all thoughts and criticisms are welcome :)

bozoy wrote: Yes, I will youtube side chaining and such. I was noticing that my drops don't have that "boom" factor, how do you think I could come upon atleast making the first initial note big and dirty, to set the pace for the rest of the drop because the hardest part for me is laying down that first note (the sound of it).
Sidechaining your drums to a compressor on your sub track should help with that. Your kick drum will sound a lot punchier, and if you get the attack and release on the compressor right, your sub can carry on after your kick, making it seem almost like one instrument. The sub and the kick drum are very intertwined in music, so it's a good idea to try to get them to play in harmony. I'm more familiar with actual instruments than with production techniques, so someone else might be able to give you some more specific advice on creating the sound you want.

Posted this on the Dub Tunes for Feedback section, but didn't get much of a response...still a WIP, definitely a different style of tune than I normally would produce. Any feedback would be appreciated...thanks! :)

EDIT: In the process of reviewing some of your guys tunes, give me another min to post my feedback :)

@Mannyyyyy: Yea it depends who's listening the track. Cuz some1 here told me that he would like to hear more of that sound ( or something like that :) ) but yea some like, some doesnt, no right or wrong :) Your track, it sounds so good. The first drop is awesome nice work!
@Sonic Arts: I was going to add the variations to the snares but as usual, i totally forgot it. Now added some variations and this piano sample under the beat at the start. Maybe useless but i dont know :D

@accordionfan Really interesting tune...I think the one part I'd personally work on a bit though would be the snare sample you are using. I think it could be EQd better to fit in the mix a bit more? That's just my opinion though. My favorite part was the last "drop" at like 2:50. Also, I find the panning of that synth/sample at the very beginning to be a little too much, maybe don't make it pan as much?

@lowphat That bass at the drop is fuckin awesome hahah, I love it! It's a bit repetitive towards about halfway through the song, though. Maybe try to automate one of the parameters a little bit to give it some spice / evolving characteristic? The rhythm of the sound itself is fine -- I wouldnt chance that. Your textures / pads are wicked too. Gj.

@bozoy That bass sound at 1:11 is sickkkk hahahah. I would make the drop hit a little hard though. Also, I think you're kinda losing your kick drum in the mix. Try to carve out a space for it via EQ or something?

@cheeky Definitely hear the SBTRKT influence haha, he's the man -- I've been obsessed with his stuff recently. On some real shit though, this track is beautiful. I think it could do without the little repeating vocal sample or whatever that is, but that's just my opinion. You should be proud of this one =]

@Mannyyyyy - Sick bass man! Sounds like a minimalist brostep tune :cornlol: It could use a more prominent lead synth in the breakdown at 1.12, maybe an arp?

@Cheeky - Really sick intro and atmosphere. I feel the sub could use some decay but thats about it. Sick old school vibes.

@Sonic Arts - I would just eq some of the high freqs on one of the main synths, it gets a bit too much when they are playing together. The melodies themself are very nice. Also the drums could use some more punch IMO

@almostskate100 - Interesting intro, I don't like the main bass that much, it gets pretty repetitive and could use some more mids. I would add some breaks in the bass too. Not really feeling the drums either... Just not my type of thing

@MaZa1 - Kick is nice, the snare feels a bit too white noise-ish. The bass sounds good with the rest. I would let up on the glitches a bit just to keep the groove going, maybe add them later in the song to mix it up.

I just got around to doing the Chase and Status Time Remix, so tell me what you think?

@ Mannnny Big tune dude. I can't even give you any tips. :W:
@Cheeky Nice tune man, but a few of your synths are a bit on the harsh side :/, Heavy drums though, and i like your bassline and the chord progression, for the most part.
@Sonic Arts, nice dude. liking the drums and the main melody. Very final fantasy like. Since you didn't really spend too much time on the sounds, i won't crit you there, even though for he most part its fine. A few pars of he counterpoint are a bit unpleasant though.
I also just had a crack at time. Tell me what you think. ;-)
