logic users - stock tape distortion

just got logic and after looking for a stock tape distortion plugin i realized there was none, but there is a tape delay unit. so then i found out about this little trick and it sounds great!

with this trick you can really beef up the lows and mids, take off the high end edge and really warm up the sound - just like tape distortion was intended to do. it also can add anywhere from a subtle grit to distorted piece of mess and everything in between. and you can use the lfo and flutter to get some slow wow changes over time to add some movement to your sound. check it out.

now theres no need to download any 3rd party tape distortion, cuz this one sounds great.

I use FerricTDS for all tape effect, its a nice freeware unit.

yeah the ferric is nice, but thats only vst and logics only supports AU's.

coming off of reason I'm not huge on having a million 3rd party plugs. i like to kinda use what i paid for and the stock logic plugs are definitely nice thats for sure, i mean there not all eye candy besides the synths, but that doesn't matter.

Logic's got some great stock plug-ins. I've been producing for about a year now, and have never needed any 3rd party software to learn to make any specific sounds I wanted to synthesize. Obviously it may be worth checking out other fx plug-ins just for variety, but as far as synths go, my advice would be to learn ES2 inside and out.

just out of curiosity what other 3rd party plugs are you using synths, fx, etc?

and yeah I'm going to try and really learn es2 and sculpture like the back of my hand. both seem like really powerful synths and definitely enough to make any sound that i would like to make.

But I'd say I've been over that initial learning curve for a few months now where I can learn just by experimenting with what I know how to use so I've been gettin ready to start looking for some cool AU's just to mess around with.

edit: And even though Im still fairly new, I agree with learning the DAW completely. At this point I can open ES2 and make almost any sound I have in my mind, even before adding eq or an fx chain. If only I had more skill in actually sequencing the song I'd be set.

Look up TAL plugins, they have some great freeware filters, synths, reverbs etc.

yeah i hear ya man, thats pretty much how i feel too. ill only probably get a few third party plugs. some people go all out and use like 90% 3rd party plugs but that costs a fortune.

^ and yeah iv heard of Tal plugs before. ill check out the freeware, but to be honest i think logics space reverb is bangin so no need for another one. i just looked at the tal sight, and they seem to have some nice plugs, but it says 32 bit host, will these still work in logic? logic is 64 bit.

Logic's stock effects are amazing. top of the line imo. But it's synths....well, their alright, but i like some of Native Instruments ones too....

Logic's sampler EXS24 does its job well, and the ES2 is alright

I definitely like the Ultrabeat! Best drum synth I've come across yet

But NI Massive and perhaps Absynth are great to have

not the tal fx, theres only 32 bit AU versions, will those still work in logic?

you can use Logic in 32bit too.

Yeah, exactly what I was saying, Logics effects and EQ and compression and stuff is one of the main reasons people use em, but the instruments have a lot of room for improvement.
