@alexvont12- that piano in the beginning is top notch, i would add a light reverb in the snare in the intro though, or a tighter punching on. Like a stereo seperated reverb on it. those arp's synths on the sides are top notch, i dont really like how that wobble thing in the intro is panned to the left, doesnt sound right. i like how you chopped the vocals they flow really well, the vox need to be more upfront though as they set the vibe for the track, they are kinda chillin in the back of the mix. Drop is nice, but that wobble is still panned left : / , great chill track dude, just bring that wobble more forward in the mix :W:

@killamike49- nice big pad in the beginning, the eq on the vox is a bit harsh. That fast wobbling synth is tight as hell. Drums need to be more prominent though. turn down the wobbles (do the drums will come through more). Im not really feeling when the wobble slows down or speeds up, the off tempo of it kind of throws it off. but yeah just bring those drums up! quality production though :)

@mylan- that reversed kick is a nice touch, the melody is kind of unsettling (lol). like im in a bad dream, what a cool drop! a very simple drop, (but sometimes less is more 8) ) i like that ride, try panning it to the left or right though to give the drums more spread. Keep the wobbles melody, but change the sound of it every 2beats or so to give it some variety.

@ rymebox, blatwax - :rules: :rules: :rules: :rules: give feedback and you shall receive :u:

Here is another update on my latest track, changed up the variety of the alien robot noises and added a little breakdown section, not too sure if im happy with it though, intro still needs alot of work though. :t:

I need some help.. When i took the track to my car and listened it with the same equalizer settings that i use when i'm normally listening music in my car and the synths did sound little weird. Theys sounded like the bass was too loud and maybe little muddy and the higher end sounded like it was clipping or something, like muddy also.
But when i listen it with my headphones it sound fine and someone here said everything sounds well enough eq'd.
So should i eq the low end more or just turn the synths little bit down?
At the car i have subwoofers so it really brings the bass up more than my headphones, which isnt so low quality either.

@lowphat your tunes great! as others have said it could use a bit more variation but yea, its p dark. just the way i like it
@Mannyyyyy total banger
@almostskate100 quite nice, i feel like the part at around 1:40 could use maybe a bigger snare/clap or something to drive it a bit more. maybe make the kicks pop out a bit more too

@ Mannyyyyy: I really enjoyed the intro, I like how it went all over the place and how it changes tempo. Midrange is farther forward than drums, might need to drop the levels on it to get the drums more forward. Also the drop is pretty repetitive, I think it needs more variation. Whatever is switching up right now is not obvious enough for me. Good quality sounds though, just more variation imo.

@ Cheeky: I'm totally into that delayed synth. I think the sub might be up a little much. Nice variation in the snare, I the space you're creating with the delays and reverbs, but I want to see it go further and more consistent, like a larger space, differernt parts of the song are closer and farther apart, and I think it sound better when it's all big space. When that midrange comes in it seems to suck up a lot of the space, I think if you could make it spacier in that spot it would be good, it's around 56. I really like it though, relaxing, crisp, melodic, that repeating arpeggio is nice.

@ almostskate100: It get's a bit repetitive. I think the intro works fine, but after it drops it needs to mix up way more. I also liked the 808's you had going in the beginning and was bummed when they were nonexistent in the second drop. I like the use of interesting percussion. I liked the sense of space in the first part, but it disapeared in the second part. That bassline and the synth stuff is just too repetitive for me. I like the dif claps.

@ alexvont12: I think your kick hats, and snare need more high end crunch, also to be wider. I like that midrange that comes in panned right, but I think it needs to be more center, maybe put it opposite the vocals, panning wise, it's a bit loud as well. I think this song would benefit from a stronger, catch and release, I believe its called, the piano is pretty static right now, and this song would be way more intense if it moved from soft and filtered to crispy and louder. It needs a breakdown or something as well, like an earlier break from that piano, just to remind the listener it's even there.

@ RandoRando: I like how the intro builds, a lot. Lovin the swing, totally sounds hip hopy, which seems intentional. Love that random synthy break from the midrange. The timeing on the synth after the "don't you dare touch me" feels off or something, it may not be, but I would look at that. I like how non melodic the midrange is for a lot of it. Around 2:55 that high pitched thing is kinda of annoying to me. I do dig the change of pace though, it's a nice break, I think it would work better if it was less fuzzy and even more melodic, just to create even more distinction from the rest. I think that portion needs a bit more work in general. I like the abrupt transistions. Great job overall, good mixing and songwriting imo. It's a breath of fresh air for the heavier stuff.

So this is for a remix comp. I basically took the vocal stems and made a new song. I'm mostly concerned about mixing and levels as its mostly too late for any major musical changes, although suggestions are welcome. I want feedback about quality of current sounds and mixing. It's at around -6db, so no comp/limiter atm. THanks

This is why studio monitors are a good investment. You might want to download a spectrum analyzer plugin if your daw doesn't already come with one. That'll let you check out the levels of each frequency visually, instead of having to rely on speakers. Also, sometimes it depends how your hooking up the music to your car; I have been told that using your car stereo's line-in jack with an mp3 player that only has a headphone-out jack can make songs sound bassier.

From the looks of your post, though, it sounds like you have more evidence that your mix is fine and your car speakers just aren't being true. I might just eq that shit out from the car stereo.

@RandoRando thanks dude. yeah im bout to throw some waveshaper and eqs on em. i wanna try some new effects to add some filth and some fullness to the actual synth without turning up the cuttoff. maybe widen stereo on it. any other suggestions?

@Rymebox: I think you should have the original tempo on the vocals + I didn't like what you did to the vocals at 0:39.

@Blatwax: I liked your track, great job. But I suggest that you make the intro a bit lower/Add more bass to the "main part", this will make the drop more interesting (according to me).

@RandoRando: Great track! The only thing that I think you could change is the drums, change the volume of/remove the "pre snare".

@MaZa1: 1. Read what i said to Blatwax. 2. My only advice is that you remove that "build up" at 0:28, add some more fills instead!

Sorry if I gave you too much "constructive critism"

Here's a preview of what I'm working with right now: Soundcloud

I didn't have any panning on that at all... ?? Just a .3 ms stereo delay... And it doesn't sound panned to me at all right now :?

@RandoRando - I love the distorted intro, I'm not a fan of the yoy's at the first drop. The breakdown sounds sick, maybe use that synth a little in the intro for some contrast. I love the part at 2.30 :4: Also the kick could use a bit more sub.
@Briskisgoodforu - Sick man, I like the groove, and the drums fit the rapper perfectly. I feel the bass along the whole mix could be raised a bit, as well as some sidechaining on the kick to punch through more.
@HAKALALALa- Sick vibes man, the drums and bass are nice and clean. Don't have much feedback except, moore :W:

Well I re-uploaded the latest version of mine, did a lot of tweaking to everything... I was wondering if it still sounds panned??

I actually bounced the second bassline out and realized that it was in a different key after I imported the vocals. I kinda tried to make it work by only eventually only leaving the piano playing in C Minor to match the bassline but I guess it didn't work too well :D stay tuned for round 2.

@blatwax - lots of energy man, really dign the synth work in this. the mid break in this is insane man, alot of good sounds here. very good glitch work.

@randorando - good filtered drum intro. drop is insane on this as well. those basses are really heavy. nice mid break melody. good work all around on this.

@maza1 - that intro is kinda much i think... drop is good, liken the reese sounds here. but that intro thing behind the basses isnt quite appealing... the bitcrushed bass is kinda out of place to... but its not bad for sure.

@alexeyhermann - i'd take a bit of the bass out of the build, the drop is really nice. i like the synth work and arrangement alot. really focus on the build of this the break thing toward the end should make for a decent foundation for your intro i think. good work

@briskisgoodforyou - i believe i heard this a while back, it just needs to be louder i think

@alexvont12 - the mix does sound a bit distant but this may be what your after. i like the simple progression an female vocals. some of those basses seem a bit harsh as well. but the overall vibe of this is really good.

been working on this, kinda coming together, any suggestions on this?

The car stereo has a built-in usb so did use that but that mp3 player thing is true, or atleast it would turn the quality down.
But this is the problem, posts here is saying mix is fine, but i dont know whats the problem at the car. Cuz when i listen all the other music ( skrillex, noisia, nero, chase&status etc) those tracks sound much clearer maby even bassier but not muddy or too loud synths etc.
And i use the same settings so i can compare the tracks so thats why im little conserned.

And what comes to these intro etc things, ill try to get the levels etc fine and then ill start moving and removing those things. But still thanks for the feedback :W:

@Maza1; Did you process your basses? I suggest to add more color to your drops, more soft, bright animated sounds and also automate your wobbles a tad more (unless you are aiming for a catchy rhythm?) Nontheless a great track with much potential

@alexeyhermann; This sounds serious! I love the variety, I can't really suggest much since you must have more experience than me but I do have an ear for quality, this definitely will sound banging once mastered

@Hakala; Your track reminds me of Koan Sound :) The rhythm and stabby groove of the bass, I like this. The drop may need a little bit more color/textures/brightness in both the bass and spaces of your track. I suggest adding minimalistic glitch percussion or even arppegiators to fill up the background of certain beats of the sequence. I really enjoy where your going with this track :)

Though this isn't exactly dubstep, I believe it is one of my best mixed track (in the works at least), I need feedback on the bass at the drop, does it sit right? I need some tips to make the midfreq basses sit better in the mix? unless I am being to critical of myself? Anywho, it's nontheless a catchy uplifting song that is definitely worth giving a try. I appreciate your time!

@ Hakala - very cool man, really liking the bits of tension in the drop created by the wobbles; I think it's the way the bass opens up a bit "later" than the listener might expect, a tleast that's how I'm hearing/feeling it. Hope that made any sense haha, anyhow it's cool.

@ alexvont12 - Yeah the bass still sounds panned :? , though I dunno what to tell you towards fixing it... Hope it works out though, cause otherwise it's a sweet track. The vocals are really really nice, definitely feeling the usage of them. And as someone had mentioned, the kick may need a bit more sub or something to help it punch through a tad more.

@ teejayem - love love love the groove here, might bring the volume on that bright synth in the drop down just a touch, but otherwise it's cool. Also in the drop, I'd be curious to see how the bass sounds with just a wee little bit less crunch/distortion - but just a little - cause it's pretty sick.

Alright so I whipped up this rough mix yesterday/this morning. Planning on doing a fair bit more work with the intro; I realize it's pretty simple/empty as it is. Mainly looking for general feedback on the drop - too busy? Too simple? Just plain shitty? Let me know. Thanks guys.

Feedback for others:
@alexvont12: Love the vocals from the original track you've used. Your chops are good too. Your kick needs punching up, boost the lower frequencies or layer it with a sub stlye kick. As the others have said the main bass does sounds slightly panned to the right channel and it loses all its punch, try stripping back the effects and settings in your synth until you find whats messing it up. Otherwise nice job man.
@jimbeaux: Progression and variation sounds nice man, I can see it fitting into a track nicely, only one thing though - the bass sounds slightly flat, it either needs some mid's layering over it or fattening up slightly by maybe comrpessing it?
@teejayem: Nice chilled intro man, the piano style synth works well. The arp's and panning are very cool too - sounds like a Madeon track. As for the bass, to me it sounds weird because you're under using it - instead of using it in little bursts try rewriting the bass as the main synth after the drop and let the midrange/treble synths accompany it, because atm it sounds like the bass is an accompaniment rather than a main part of the track. Otherwise tone down the crunch of it and maybe lower the volume and widen the panning?
@bodom418: Nice intro, esp. the drums. The build with the vocals is really nice, wheres the sampe from? The drop is good, although imo some of the bass is slightly over-distorted. One thing I'd suggest is making your snare punchier after the drop by boosting its eq. Otherwise, finish up the bassline and you have a nice track. Btw where did you get your accapella for If I Die Young from man, it sounds awsm.

My newest WIP is below, I wanted to make a sort of jump-up electro track with guitars. It ended up being pretty weird and at 138bpm lol, after the drop is kind of just a shitty filler loop of 8 bars with some shitty yois - I want to work on a chopped up bassline to fit around the main synth. Any feedback would be awsm.

Ok so here is a mini song I put together previewing 35 of my presets I've made... Quite a HELL of a lot...

But Some in particular I need help with making them... Bass-y-er and grindy.

Also; Does anyone know how to make a bass move like... KOAN Sound does a LOT, and other music artists. Make it sound like a mouth opening and closing while maintaining beat in sync... It's amazing. As well as, does anyone know how to have a pitch automation on a SINGLE channel in FL Studio so it won't affect the entire song and so you don't have to copy, past and raise the pitches over and over til you get as high as you like.

Heres the preview of my presets! (Including alternatives I've made of them.)

(HOLY $H1+ I'M SURPRISED HOW THIS TURNED OUT CONSIDERING I WAS SO LAGGED OUT WITH LIKE 103 CPU IN PURE RED AND COULDN'T HEAR ANYTHING.)

http://soundcloud.com/byte-me-music/pre ... -35-custom

(Wub told me to come here or the Tunes feedback... I don't see how considering this should probably be in Technical, etc.)
Keep progressing, one day you'll be great. :)

You need to repost your SoundCloud link like this to make it work:

Code: Select all

[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/byte-me-music/[/soundcloud]
Also the idea of this thread is to give feedback first to others before receiving it. Anyways considering you're only posting a preset sampler tune here goes: You have some nice sounds, but a few sound very similar. The composition of the sample piece sounds good though - it shows them all of nicely.

As for your questions:
But Some in particular I need help with making them... Bass-y-er and grindy.
Try using distortion based plugins such as Ohmicide or CamelPhat, alternatively layering sounds especially with a sub layer with add bassiness. You could also resample the sounds by applying effects, bouncing them and reapplying similar effects and bouncing again etc. There are lots of tutorials in the Production forum on stuff like this.
Also; Does anyone know how to make a bass move like... KOAN Sound does a LOT, and other music artists. Make it sound like a mouth opening and closing while maintaining beat in sync
To get the whole mouth opening thing check out some of the tutorials done in the Production forum for FM8, it's all about applying EQ/formant/filter automation over a sound, most of the tutorial threads explain it better :P Also as far as I know KOAN sound resample a lot. Oh and you could try vocoding the bass too, but whenever I've done that it never sounds right :P
does anyone know how to have a pitch automation on a SINGLE channel in FL Studio
Go onto the Piano roll of the channel, the box beneath the piano roll normally has the volume levels of each note - now right click on the left hand side of this box, click channnel pitch, and draw your automation pattern :) You could also create an automation pattern on the track playlist by right clicking the pitch knob of a certain channel (at the top of the channel settings box) and click create automation clip.

Also here's my WIP again (I gave feedback to others on the previous page, but figured I'd post it again at the start of this new page.) I wanted to make a sort of jump-up electro track with guitars. It ended up being pretty weird and at 138bpm lol, after the drop is kind of just a shitty filler loop of 8 bars with some shitty yois - I want to work on a chopped up bassline to fit around the main synth.
