Andrei Stephen - Everybody (Dubstep/Brostep)

Post by AndreiStephen » Thu Dec 29, 2011 9:13 pm

Soundcloud

Trying to shake the rust off, first time I've produced seriously in a few months. I'd like all sorts of CC, literally - technicality to musicality, I want every single honest comment thrown at me.

Thanks for the listens! <3

Hmmm. Nice job with the vocal chops. The mix is somewhat muddy. Did you make that synth sound? Sounds very similar to skrillex. If you made it, hats off to ya. Very nice.

It's at 1:31. Clean up mix? First sort out total output. Make sure each individual instrument is not clipping in your mixer. Then look at the master and make sure it isn't clipping. Try compressing certain instruments and equalizing them such that it leaves room for other instruments in their respective frequency spectrums. I usually compress my kicks and snares with a 10:1 ratio. Instruments, i compress by ear. Basically compress such that the instrument still sounds the same but comes trough the mix clearly.

What difference does changing the ratio make exactly? Just curious as to why you would do 10:1 on a snare or a kick :P What is[/s] the ratio? LOL

Basically what i've found through experimentation is that the higher the ratio is, the more the drum will be compress (tightness). Making the ratio to high will cause the drum to sound unnatural though. Basically, if you increase the input volume on a compressor, and decrease the output with a compression ratio, you will be compressing the audio. You just kinda have to toy around with it to see what sounds best though.
