This is a bad job to have when you are on drugs.

(or maybe it's a good one...)

In that line of work there is no substitute for experience.
and I do think acid would be a good choice when playing with lazers and LEDs.

Lighting Technician course would be a go first.

like soiree said, experience is a huge factor in that game.

I know a guy who does that now and then, he got to the position where he's allowed to do it because he's been working his way up from bus-boy for like 6 years

My Dad makes software based lighting controllers that tend to be in bigger clubs like Fabric, its not an easy thing to get into because its a specific program you need to be able to use and there are loads of different programs and lighting desks out there- so its a niche skill you can only really get with experience.

Nah you don't really need certificates in lighting to get involved. Just get yourself out there and be polite. My mate ran the lighting rig for a decent drum & bass night one time just by turning up early, being genuinely interested and polite, eager and enthusiastic towards the lighting technician. Watch, be willing to learn, and eager to help. The technician had enough shit on his plate already so he let my mate have a quick go, and then do it for the whole night once he realised he was good at it. With that little bit of experience my mate got a taste and went on to pursue lighting further. Now he's running the whole sound & light for an international theatre company. He did go to uni in order to get this far, but he got the lighting gig for the d&b night just by eating some MDMA, being friendly and then doing his 'job' enthusiastically.

Just get out there, speak to some club owners, technicians, etc. Everybody loves an eager volunteer!

I do the lights etc for theatres and small clubs :D I literally got there through finding a kid at school who did it and following him, being his 'assistant' when he did school productions and even doing a few of my own (We had really advanced kit for a school, Jands Vista, Vista decks, Moving heads, Parcans, Scrollers, Scanners, the works). After which I got good at it and took over from him on a few occasions, added that to my resume and using my contacts :D

My friend and ex-housemate was personally asked by Radiohead to be their projectionist. He ended up going on tour with them across the US, Australia and Japan.

He got that gig by being really good. I was living with him when he first starting getting into projections.
