i agree with him up until right at the end but im really not sure about the comparisons with r&b and hip hop. think perhaps america just didn't get garage and so they've kinda missed that part of the sequence...

this can not be emphasized enough. yall brits grew up with 2step and garage. that shit was a tiny niche market over here, and it never blew up. its not that we didnt get it. it just never got popular and spread around . so the only thing most Americans can relate dubstep to is hiphop.

so lay off my buddy bassnectar. hes a remarkable producer. fuck all these guys who make a couple cool tracks, play em out on CDJ's or traktor and mix other super rinsed dubstep tracks. Bassnectar makes like an extra hour of music for every song he makes. with that he can remix something LIVE completely different, yet still awesome, and still recognizable. and he's got the sickest production team making it a truly chaotic yet comforting environment. i've seen EVERY type of person at bassnectar concerts. and they all looked like they could be buds (at this concert, which is the point), and they all had a great time with each other. gd i'm just as much a fan of him as i am of his music. and he's got some long ass hair, which is pretty cool too.
and i'm more of a browser on this forum so don't think my 3 measly posts means i'm just some kid who heard of bassnectar last week. through the 3 years i've spent appreciating dubstep and the producers of said genre, i don't think i've been this let down by the dsf community and their view of my dude bassnectar.

I found this pretty informative up until he said that dubstep is half time, ultra slow spawn of hip hop that sounds like WOBWOBWOBWOBWOB. Come on dude, that part basically just backs up the ignorance held by so many people. Its not slow, its just half time, and saying that all dubstep sounds like WOBWOBWOBWOB is basically giving ammo to the detractors who say stuff like that when they argue that dubstep is shit

To be honest, I really like Bassnectar. I wouldn't associate him with Skrillex or even brostep at all - he's doing something else. And his tracks are dope, imo.

To me, Bassnectar is what SBTRKT would sound like if SBTRKT made Brostep. It's mid-range, but still different than most Brostep tunes.

I enjoy Bassnectar more than most Brostep producers. And he comes from a J.Dilla-inspired background, to me that's a cool thing.

Well, he's basing Dubstep on that because his influence of Dubstep came primarily from the 70BPM Southern Hip Hop music which is influential to many Dubstep producers in America and Canada.

I know many Americans who associate Dubstep with southern Hip-Hop than Grime or UK Garage. And i think that's pretty sad.

Half time dubstep is 70bpm. Most dubstep tracks are 140bpm. How does this make dubstep an ultra-slow variation on hip hop? Dubstep came from garage. Not hip hop. This will just bring back the point that Timbaland thinks he invented dubstep!

Dubstep is 140 but halftime, dude, anyone who's tried to produce dubstep for over ten seconds would know that. It's 140 bpm because of the hats, but the kick and snare are going at halftime.
And by the way, I'm not a fan of brostep. Again, I would stress the point that Bassnectar's tracks are not brostep.

But it also fails to really explain what Dubstep is, "Halftime Broken Beat"?
It's a hell of a lot more than that.
