make a new audio track and set the input, in the i/o section, to the vst you want to record, arm that new audio track for record, turn global record on in the top toolbar, play. Or an even easier way is to create a new audio track underneath your VST lane. Freeze your vst track, and just drag the midi notes into the audio track lane. It will automatically turn into audio becuase you froze it, fastest resampling ever

Might sound like a noob, but what do you mean by "Freeze" the track?

rght-clk (or cmd-clk) the track and there is an option to freeze.
It renders the midi and any fx/automation you have so it's not processing it in real time anymore.
Saves cpu

So I mace some pitch automations with simplers transpose slider on a hi hat pattern. I wanted to chop it up though, so I tried slice to midi track and found my pitch automations weren't in there. So I ended up freezing he track and dragging it to a new audio lane and chopped that one up. That was the most efficient way of doing that right?

So can I unfreeze it? The same way...

yup, right click<unfreeze<and then you will able to edit your midi again.

SWEET! My ableton always starts lagging whenever i have a lot of midi going at once. So this is great.

A cool trick in ableton is if you have a midi track selected, just drag an audio clip into the 'drop' area and it'll create a simpler instrument for you based on that sample.
(you can then drag any other sample on top of that to replace it)

Also, don't forget you can layer your sounds by creating multiple simpler channels and ctrl+clicking on each 'rec' button for each track :D

There is no "best way" you just do it the way that's provided - write your midi, set up an audio track, record - throw recorded sample into sampler.
160 bpm roller - for all the skankas.
