 An MPC has a 'computer' (a PCB with Processors among other things) inside of it and a screen to visually see what that 'computer' is doing, what made the MPC standout was it's distinctive onboard AD/DA and sound processing and the quantize functionality on the sequencer software and pads to trigger sounds.
