But seriously, could do with the fact that there was never really a Poster Boy for UKG (bar Craig David).
Americans love to have a face to the label. Its their sense of commericalisation and consumerism I suppose.

Fuck it, I lied. It's cos they have bad taste.

N back to the point didnt the US have their own garage which was massive before UKG?! Chicago House, Detroit Techno n one other I cant remember but ends in Garage lol!

craig david charted here.... so did the 2step remix of get through this.

however in order for UK garage to succeed it would have to be in our dance community primarily and at the time we were at full saturation with tech house, minimal techno, and deep house.

These are all terms your country would later be familiar with after you stopped listening to UK hard house/UK NRG

Aw, Gotta Get Through This isn't that bad. As for Craig David - 7 Days was too overplayed and never thought much of Fill Me In. However Rewind is ok and Walking Away is a guilty pleasure. Of course both of these guys and their tracks pale in comparison to something like Sincere.

No matter what people say, IMO, the MJ Cole, Artful Dodger and Sunship albums were fucking sick.

Sharmaji wrote:the idea of EDM being a top40 staple is, at east in the states, still a VERY new thing. Hiphop, sure, but when garage & 2step were making their rounds, the top 10 tunes in the US were largely R&B/pop R&B (Christina Aguilera at the end of her teen days, Mariah Carey, Sisqo, Janet Jackson), pure pop like Britney Spears, or really awful white dude rock-- Matchbox Twenty, Savage Garden, and Creed. The largest electronic act, overground at least-- was Moby-- and he was HUGE. but definitely not 2 step.

Yes, timbaland's stuff at the time was really broken beat and not that far off from bugz in the attic, etc-- but it was R&B and marketed as such. Madonna did have that record out at the time that really aped 2step, "Music," but even she couldn't make the whole broken beat at 130bpm thing stick.

It amazed me being in London that summer, just how prevalent d&b was in overground culture-- on the radio, in the background in shopping centers, etc. It's only with the rise of HUGE pop singles on Ultra records that the same has been happening in the states.
V2 also fucked up the way they presented broken beat to america. All those Bugz singles and albums were pushed to RNB stations, and they would have no idea what to do with it at that time. its a real shame that Bugz didn't blow big then, as now they probably could fair better. Even So Solid, who probably had the biggest potential in terms of group image, videos etc, was barely marketed. I remember seeing oxideneutrino's NYC promo tour show, and about 11 people showed up.

Sadly not mate, the one issue with playing all records is there is no serato history to check after lol! Plus we get very stoned n generally have a laugh in the studio so no one wanted to write the tracklist! We'll be doing another very soon, maybe tomorrow so will TL it ;) Trust me tho, classic's all the way!

me and my mates love garage, grime, bassline
i think americans are just stupid and don't like non-american music
which is funny because pretty much everything is just a rip off of a british band/artist atm :h:
