I have only been once for Theo Parrish and I have to say the system was crisp and clear but had very little bottom end. Can't understand why they have moved the DJ booth and getting in and out of the dancefloor was much worse than before.
I like the darkness but in some places it was so dark I can see trouble kicking off when people keep bumping into each other.
Secruity were ruder than normal (bring back Winston) and the bar prices have gone up.
On the plus side they still sell Guinness Foreign Export but I am afraid to say that if they don't fix up that system sharpish one of the only remaining decent clubs in London will be lost.
These days I only really hit Plastic People and Corsica Studios. I am sure the soundsystem down Fabric is still decent enough but not massively into the line ups / crowd.
A couple other clubs have OK soundsystems like Area, East Village (just), Cable etc and other remaining places like MOS or The Egg don't cater to my music tastes.
Moan, moan, moan!

Corsica Studios is the only place left that I can't complain about especially room 2, massive bassweight! Pure physical vibes and exactly as it should be.messsingh wrote:These days I only really hit Plastic People and Corsica Studios. I don't understand why so many clubs have Funktion One's in London because they barely have any decent gain running their subs to even justify using such a hi end system. Most of it is purely for fashion, such a waste because none of it is being used properly. Corsica use their hardware to the full potential. Fabric is huge and expensive so don't bother with that often.
Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
Past few times i been it's been the same situation. I'm gutted I've missed being on the edge of a scene again. too young for rave, too young for jungle, too young for garage, just missed out on this whole fwd/dubstep scene. Something new needs to come along. Underground needs to rise up again. I don't know where it'll go next.
But I do hope plastic people sort it out, i'd love to go down there on a proper vibe, that said Oneman's all vinyl grime set there a few months ago was unbelievable, even if i could hear everyone around me talking.

Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
Never been a problem. Or at least it never used to be anyway, although the amount of pushing/shoving/barging did get noticeably more annoying over time. That was the great thing about dubstep and FWD, everyone respecting each other's personal spaces. None of this attitude crap with people kicking off and all that shit.messsingh wrote:I like the darkness but in some places it was so dark I can see trouble kicking off when people keep bumping into each other.
Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
I went for the floating points vs marcellus pittman nye party, had an amazing night, didnt know what half the music was but could not stop dancing. First time ive been since when it closed over summer a while go. Soundsystem was so super crisp and very warm, no doubt all vinyl helped. Low end came in and out. Not as heavy/loud as before, but on the plus side never felt uncomfortable or felt the need for my ear plugs. Great atmosphere as well and was never rammed so lots of space in the dance. The bouncers were VERY thorough but very polite and friendly while they were doing it. Still one of my favourite clubs, without doubt.

went on thursday for fwd>> for the first time in a while, was really pleased with how they've tuned it up since. it still lacks its infamous former weight but it's gotten much more powerful and clearer too, felt it in my throat, always a good sign

Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
I've missioned up twice now from Devon to go to FWD. Once was Oct 2010 when Untold, Africa Hitech & Ellijah & Skilliam played and it was really good. Loud, clear soundsystem, small DJ booth in the corner against the back wall where you felt properly involved. Went again a few months back when Skream played the 04-06 set (which was seriously good) but the new layout and the lack of volume was a real let down. The new DJ booth placement has broken the club up the whole place feels weird and unfinished. Also, it seemed like they'd put metal mesh panels up on the back wall (although it was standardly very dark so I could be wrong) which seems strange if you're gonna have a proper system in the room as the walls will just rattle. The system was hellishly quiet too. not sure if there have been some noise issues or not but, as said in previous posts, you could easily chat to the person next to you without having to shout. As for the door price, it was definitely 7 quid to get in both times and drinks were super-pricey (except rum & ginger
). This was just what I expected from London in general though, so it didn't seem like much of a shock to me.
Real shame, can't see myself going back there really. Glad I got one trip in when it was set up properly though. Untold smashed it that night.

To come from the hospitality/service business I know people need to make money and pay wages etc. I know we all like things that are free, its just not possible anymore is it. Imagine how much rent for that place is...
An example: If you owned a club, would you ask all the DJs to play for free? Just a thought..

Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
I'm feelin the new layout - if u wana rave u can, if u wana chat or drink you can. Too many times the old layout had a ram bar with little vibes on the floor.
Systems always take time to bed down also.
Still one of..if not the best club in LDN for new music and vibes.

anyone headed fwd tonight?
Re: Plastic People. Thoughts?
same here. too young for all those, and add too young for disco (i wish i coulda been there, the start of everything technically). However the thing that gets me excited is that every decade or so a new style comes along. think about it. more or less the different eras in music have been only a couple of years apart, shy of a decade or just hitting that mark. Dubstep was in the early 00's, being that it's 2012, this means something new is upon us, the thing is, are you smart enough to discover that underground before it turns overground.Etches828 wrote:PI'm gutted I've missed being on the edge of a scene again. too young for rave, too young for jungle, too young for garage, just missed out on this whole fwd/dubstep scene. no one is going to tell you, this is the new sound of the decade, you have to go find it. maybe even create it.
