Everything music related is pretty concentrated in downtown Austin and most people just walk, especially during SXSW. I'd get an all day bus pass every day you're there too just in case, it's only like 1.50-2 dollars or so. No need to rent a car unless you plan to go elsewhere, and parking is a pain.

There's some info for first timers here if you haven't seen it: http://www.sxsw.com/first_time

worked on two films debuting at sxsw this year.... once times/dates get finalized i'll let ninjas know for those that are coming out to week one. Last year had a few passes so imagine this year I'll have the same.

I found out the dates but I can't announce them until the writers/studio announce which should be soon.

Anywho I have 8 passes remaining but only gonna give em to folks coming to week 1 as well. So hit me up.

The two films I worked on are small films but one is getting decent hype. The film expo is really underappreciated... And while seeing Addison groove last year was stellar I honestly had a better time and met more industry folks in the film week.

Seriously consider giving the film week some love this year!

Jealous... you guys are gonna have fun hitting 6th st.!

If you're looking for a chill spot off the main drag to hang out and have a cheap beer, check out Mugshots on 7th & Trinity. Also - the Ginger Man on 4th st. for their overall beer selection [which is honestly just staggering... so many good beers].

Oh, and beware the plainclothes cops if you're planning on doing anything like burning one inna alley. I think Austin makes most of its money for the year on tickets written to out-of-towners for stupid shit like that - my buddy got caught and wound up with a choice between a $700 fine or flying back to Texas to try and contest it. He opted for the fine.

I live not to far from 6th so if we wanna have a ninja burn session my place is open within reason. Had talked with a few people about possibly doing a podcast during film week or a ustream.

Yeah man I'm going out for the film thing mainly. Got like 20-30 tunes already for soundtrack type stuff. And the interactive talks.

I'm bringing over a midi keyboard/interface/laptop/drum machine with me in a suitcase so just gonna bum around doing some parties.

(i don't smoke these days so I should be fine haha  )

edit: when you say passes what exactly are they for? for the screening of the films you were working on?

i also recommend not drinking too much during the day. getting wasted during the day is real easy to do and it will fuck everything else up.

Yeah I'm pretty much gonna stay sober as a judge. Maybe have a cider in the evening with ice. Only going over to network and that so don't wanna mess it up, waste of money otherwise :4:

i'll find the pass info from last year so you can see the details. Performers and crew usually get platinum badges for themselves, and a few free gold badges to pass out. I'll find out what we got tomorrow.

here are the types of badges

ahh yeah that's what I was going to ask about :!: I'm still not really sure which one I should buy (I'm guessing gold or platinum). I mean I can afford a platinum one but is it worth it?
the main things i want to do whilst i'm there are
a) record some vocals by some random cool folk singer in a church
b) play parties/music/anywhere
c) network

not sure if i need all the platinum stuff really
