Artists like Silkie and Von D?

Post by Raziel » Thu Jan 12, 2012 10:57 am

Easy.

Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of some artists similar to Silkie and Von D?

I've been listening to Dungeon for quite some time now and my CD collection is pretty sorted with regards to that side of dubstep and now i'm wanting to expand it into the funkier side so i can DJ to a broader ranger of crowds.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Peace.

As for the smooth, soulful aspect of Von D and Silkie, you'd probably like Submotion Orchestra, Author and Phaeleh

Cheers guys, thanks alot,

I've got the latest Author album and most of Phaeleh's stuff (Phaeleh's a bit too chilled for what i'm after though), definately need to check out more Heny G and i'll lock in for that Rinse show.

Never heard of Submotion orchestra though, will have to do some research.

This isn't true, a couple of years ago it was but the Antisocial show is 30 minutes of vibes and 90 of halfstep ala distance/youngsta's shows. Still quality!

Ehh, I don't think any of these artist really fit the bill he was speaking of. As this is too my favorite sound in the 140 scene, I've searched out all the jazzier soulful artistthat are out there.

You're looking more for: Heny G, Quest, JazzyJazzy, Nibe, Kromestar (only some of his tracks.), Author, etc..

Von Silk :6:

both of these artists really each have their own sound. what they have in common is jazz influence/samples.

Check out Clouds, and as mentioned, Quest, Ital Tek, Author...

If you like Silkie's drum beat in It's Late, check out some UK Funky, e.g. Funkystepz.

Yeah spot on i'm basically looking for more artists with a jazz influence, but i do also like the funky stuff, 'it's late' definately been a good example, not sure about going into UK Funky though, want to remain in the dubstep side of things.

Oh and Big ups to everyone for all the names suggested so far.

Cloud Boat

These guys have a great live set up - two dudes on stage with Guitars and FX peddles etc.
Some of their other stuff is more vocal-driven, although some of the beats and hooks are still pretty progressive.

I think that 2000F and J.Kamata could be interesting for you to check out. Personally I simply love their boogie funk influenced sound and if you want it smooth I guess it would be hard to find somebody else who can deliver it better than them! Smooth like butter and soft like satin sheets! The only have released 3-4 tunes on different labels, but look out for forthcoming stuff!

L-wiz has also released a couple of tunes with a more or less souled/jazzy vibe! As other users in this thread have written, HenyG is worth checking out too! I can`t wait to more releases will see the light of day!

Oh, and don`t forget this one.

Hope you`ill find what you´re looking for!
Have a blessed day!
