Re: Wut got me in music
Another..This one was huge for me...
I remember the exact moment I heard it for the first time
I was literally in physical shock- stunned...I was 11 '83
@when Herbie Hancocks Rockit came out if I remember correctly..
<iframe src="/forum/video.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SgvJY9xxcA" frameborder="0" style="overflow:hidden; height:auto; max-width:540px"></iframe>
sure enough!!
-In 1983, Hancock had a mainstream hit with the Grammy-award winning instrumental single "Rockit" from the album Future Shock.

This may sound weird...but I remember things by the light...the atmospheric light of the time...
Like - I can tell you that Queens Don't Try Suicide/Another One Bites the Dust
came out @the same time as Billy Squires Stroke
because I remember them in the same light...I'll go check myself now...
the Queen came out Aug of '80 - and the Squire was Apr of '81 - so 8 months apart...
That's good recall right - considering it happened 30 years ago...
I'm patting myself on back for trivia capacity...

My early music listening was my dad's music,
Groundhogs, Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull and a lot of other stuff.
Still some of my favourite music now.

I remember being 5 and dancing with my mum to 2 Unlimited - No Limit when it came on, on Top of the Pops.
Generally in primary school I just listened to whatever was on the radio. Then I heard Gorillaz - Clint Eastwood (the original mix with Del the Funky Homosapien) and had to have it. So Gorillaz s/t was my first music purchase which is one I'm happy with. Scarily it could have been S Club 7 or Steps or some shit like that.

Re: Wut got me in music
Around 1991 i was born and my parents where constantly playing music vinyl radio tapes all thats stuff, then much later i started listening to standard pop music on he radio annoying the parents usual shit, then i heard garage and loved it then bit of drum n bass and its not changed much until couple of years back when i found dubstep started going to nights and found a sound i really like, i remember like 2001 trying to find music that was loads of bass found it difficult i liked drum n bass but it was to fast, then i found dubstep.

Re: Wut got me in music
definitely this.
my mum said i used to sing this song so much when i was about 3 (although clearly the words weren't really very accurate) but the first song that really stuck in my head, think it was like '93 or something

Re: Wut got me in music
My first favorite song (that I actively consciously remember)was this....
and it wasn't the country aspect - it was the shoegazey chorus that did it for me...at age 4
<iframe src="/forum/video.php?url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fz1ex78QeQI&feature=related" frameborder="0" style="overflow:hidden; height:auto; max-width:540px"></iframe>
funny - not to sound Ballardian about it in 2012 but...
The reason I remember it so well...
Is because I went on my first serious road trip when that song was popular - Disneyworld in Florida...18hr drive
And I remember hearing it while driving to the Kennedy Space Center
down this long - tropically hot - back road - surrounded by alligators(non-crystalized at that point)
and thinking how the song went perfect with the moment
sky rockets in flight - afternoon delight

moonraker
