i have serious issues with squat parties
There is a correlation bt second hand smoke and increased chances of getting lung cancer but this is not definitive proof of a causal relationship. Besides, the stats don't make a strong case for a ban.zap pow wrote:Yes there is.pk- wrote:there's no actual proof that second hand smoke causes health problems, though. this law is the equivalent of a judge saying 'everyone knows he dunnit, send him down'.

Decent post; the man speaks a lot of truth.dubwise_gamgee wrote:ah, man... it's not just about a "certain class of non-smokers being intolerant of other people's habit"... that you just being ignorant, dude...
just because you want to smoke in a club doesn't mean everybody around you wants to inhale all the toxic shit...
it's pretty obvious that smoking is unhealthy and causes many of diseases (and you're right, lung cancer risk is generally very low) but it affects your health in general (lung condition, heart, stomach, health condition etc). don't get me started on studies about the health risks of smoking. check the web, wikipedia, or whatever, there's a lot out there and is has been researched for years... (it's not like this is a "made up" threat from the government, it's internationally researched... there's not always a conspiracy of some ruling class behind everthing hehe).
i don't mind going to club with smoking (although ganja smoke just smells waaaay better than cigarettes) but spending a whole long club night in a club with bad ventilation (which is the case with most clubs) just fucks up your body and your energy (besides the drinking etc)... clubs with proper ventilation+smoking = fine with me!
and yeah, the smokey air has something vibey to it but i think the law should be that clubs can choose if they want smoking or not (or let's say, they can have one or two smoking nights a week, or a month, whatever, anway, some option at least)... i think clubs should just be forced to have modern ventilation and proper fresh air, then the smoking harm would also decrease i guess so, although i'm not the expert, but it seems reasonable).
but these laws are just meant to be fair (although they seem unfair to smokers i know), because why should an individual be "harmed" (by massive amount of smoke in big clubs which are obviously not good for you) if he just wants to there to enjoy the music and dance?
of course the risk of getting hit by a car is higher then lung cancer but why does on have to take an well-known risk of inhaling toxic air if he's interested in music/nightlife etc (which will harm you in the long rung)?
i'm not totally for or against the ban, haven't made up my mind but it's obvious that it had to come. guess there should just be "private smoking clubs" or whatever, sounds like a good idea (with a pseudo-membership for the specific evening).. then people would know where to go to get the full smoke input or not...
basically it all comes down to proper ventilation in clubs and venues, that would make everybody happy i imagine..
We had the same problem her in New Zealand when they banded smoking in bars & the work place. Was strange at first but now after a couple of years everyones used to it & people actually wear anti perspirant rather than just fragrance. The non smokers out there will notice that they feel way better the next morning & your clothes dont stink of smoke. Smokers you'll just have to get used to going out side every time you want a smoke. Last gig I was at I went out with some birds I'd meet there while they had a smoke & I can't recall seeing many smokers outside at all. I guess that means the new law is actually working in that its stopping social smokers at least.dj thc wrote:i heard from a friend in scotland that now the smoking ban is on there all the clubs smelll of sweat and farts!!! as before the smoke took that smell away to a certain extent!! but apparently now it just sticks of BOBBY ORANGE (bo) and farts!!! lol
