KRK RP8 Monitors
Hey guys,
Just about to buy some KRK RP8's as my first monitors. One thing I've noticed is that some are Bi-Amped and some are Active. What is the difference and which set should I go for? I don't really know much about this sort of thing, as you can probably tell.
Thanks for any help.

Re: KRK RP8 Monitors
Active means the amplifier is inside the speaker, therefore you'd need to plug each speaker is plugged into the mains individually.

There's an article on bi-amping. Think it means within each speaker there is one amp for the tweeter and one for the woofer.

^ yeah
btw rp8s will serve you just fine as a first pair of monitors. personally, I wouldn't buy them though. but its all personal preference really.

Ah cheers guys. So they're basically the same.
Re: KRK RP8 Monitors
well bi amped means there a separate amp for the tweeter and the woofer. thats what most of the common choices are nowadays.Espy wrote:Ah cheers guys. So they're basically the same.
active means the amps are built right into the speaker so you don't have to worry about buying an amp and wiring. theres pros and cons for each type of setup but id suggest you get active as its much easier.

I have the RP% monitors (active) and personally I think that they are brilliant! So I can't really imagine what the RPM 8 monitors would be like!!!

I wouldn't invest in 8 now that I have 6s, they reach lower frequencies tho, but I have headphones for that!

i have RP8s and I love them
if you get RP6's I recommend you get a sub as well, the RP8's do really well with low frequencies. They're quite punchy too, not as flat as Genelecs but personally I prefer that.

Re: KRK RP8 Monitors
I know there is like a billion monitor threads on here but it was nice to see this, I'm getting RP8s next month as part of my new studio setup these will also be my first monitors
