I graduated in 2008, was exactly the same with leaving work till the last minute. Thing is, you'll get it done in the end, simply because you have to. It might be hell, but you'll make the deadlines even if you have to stay awake for days.
I had 12,000 words of my 15,000 word dissertation still to write with a week to go. I still had 6,000 to write at midnight the day before it was due in. 3 and a half years on I still get nightmares about it.

You have to take this concept further.
I felt in the same position at one point during university. The turning point for me was finding something that not only was I passionate about but could weave into the topics i studied.
It's really important to have an end game in place and give yourself some direction so that when you do finish university, even if you get a grade you're not particularly happy with, you still have an idea of what you want to achieve.
It's easier said than done but you have to find ways to be inspired.

ask your department for a marking criteria; most have them and it explains what you need to do to get each specific grade.
don't compare yourself to your friends doing non-arts subjects; doing an objective subject with a 'right answer' means you'll almost always get higher overall grades than something that's subjective. how many people ever get 100% on a literature essay at degree level, for instance?
brush up on grammar and structuring your essay as these are the closest you get to free marks. also try to read secondary texts on your reading lists, and speak to your tutor long enough before your hand in to run ideas past them and see if you're going in the right direction!
you are 'cut out' for university if you work hard enough

Fair play, what CS said resonated with me because the motivation isn't there and I'm really making a hash of things atm. Was it a creative or academic course you did?

It was academic. I suppose it's easier to not really enjoy what you're doing but still get a good result if it's academic/technical. I've come to realise that my motivation was never in the subject itself, just in the doing of things. I just like getting things done.

I definitely wasn't cut out for uni, but I stuck with it and smashed out a third. Like a boss.
