Scocco - Powering Down [Dark/Sub Bass]

Hey guys, this is the third track that I've produced so far. For this song, I learned how to use automation clips which made it a bit more interesting than my last two. The main focus I had when creating this song was making a dark atmosphere and experimenting with sub basses. I've been getting into the whole dungeon/dark style of dubstep so that's kind of what I was aiming for with this track.

Definitely liking the atmosphere and some of the synth design and automation is definitely better than anything I can do, but I'd say try to thicken up your sub bass and process the drums a bit more, particularly putting some reverb on the drums to make them sound bigger. Also there's a bit of clipping in the sub later in the track. Sounding great though

Thanks for the input. Any tips on how to thicken the subs? Drums are something that I love working on, especially getting the perfect amount of reverb. I did add some reverb to the snares, and even to the hats for this track, but i'll definitely play around with it a bit more.

I'm not sure what DAW you use, but the ways I usually thicken up the sub include adding a second sine wave oscillator to the synth, add a distortion unit that beefs up the sound without destroying it and applying equalizers, maximizers and compressors. I use Reason, so I'm not sure how well that translates to whatever you use.

As for the drums, it might just be down to personal preference on my part but I thought the snare sounded a bit too 'stock'... maybe layer it with something that has more snap to it?

Hi, yeah the bass is massivley clipping, with the drums, for me personally there was no rhythm and seemed a bit, i dont wanna say boring, but no umph to them, and yeah layer more sounds over the snare.

Ah, thanks. I haven't really messed around with a second oscillator, so I'll give that a try. I'm using FL studio btw. I haven't tried layering on the snare yet either, but I'll give that a shot. I suppose I overestimated the change in sound after I added the reverb.
