I need some recommendations

Post by devinhicks56 » Tue Jan 17, 2012 10:42 pm

Hey fellas,
You could definitely call me a newcomer to this genre. I am 15, and my whole life, i have been raised by my father to primarily listen to rap and hip hop. Recently, he began to show me that he was not fully vested in rap, and told me of all the other music he listened to. So I began an attempt to branch out, and several people brought me here.So far, the only song I REALLY like is I Cant Stop by Flux Pavilion, and I was brought to that after hearing Who Gon Stop Me by Kanye West and Jay-Z. If anyone has any suggestions on artists or songs that a hip hop listener might like, please let me know.

Take the time to look for yourself. You might find something that you weren't expecting to like. Expand your horizons. Think not as a listener of hip hop, but as a listener of music.

You will be at peace my impatient friend.

hard to do with just one track as a reference. Anyway, I'm not the person to ask because the one track you did list is not for me. Getting into this through hiphop, I assume your American. So I'll let those guys handle this account :)

it doesnt have to be anything specific. I just want some music with nice beats, and maybe i could do without the artists who employ weird sound effects (i.e. skrillex)

:Q: Big up!

What I wanted to avoid was situations like that ^^^. Whilst its good to get recommendations, I always think "What if they stop looking there?" and you miss out on so much.

I've already kinda delved into some stuff i wouldnt touch 2 weeks ago in terms of grime. once you get past the british accents, most grime artists are pretty nasty

True dat. He seems to be in good hands here though. ;-)

I'll go ahead and also recommend Boards of Canada, Teebs, Baths, Battles, Crystal Castles, Electric President, and Liquid Stranger's latest album Cryogenic Encounters. None of them are dubstep but they're all fucking good electronic or heavily electronic influenced music.

Happy hunting!

A lot of the brainfeeder guys are heavily rooted in hip hop in my opinion, maybe give them a shot?

Any sort of constructive feedback will be greatly appreciated! And I'm a soundcloud addict so I'll return the favor.
