HMV Plans to increase vinyl stock in 2012

Interesting to see how well this works and how long they can keep it up. Although it's a little bit sad, the Internet really is an awful lot better for buying music than most proper storefronts... independent or not, it's difficult for anywhere with a showroom to offer the kind of stock/experience that Boomkat, Bleep etc do online.

Would love Boomkat to open a small store, they are less than 3miles from where I live yet sometimes I wait for up to a week for an order to arrive.

I somehow doubt they're going to stock white labels or small runs though it could signal a resurgance of the format, even more so than it was enjoying already...

Might also bring prices down, probably at the cost of indie stores though

mannnnn i just remembered way back in the day they would have three fucked 1210's in store and you'd go hand in your phone for a deposit for a needle and cart - go install it yourself, check the tune then go get your phone back hahaha. the decks were fucked always. bent tonearms etc.

i would always get the big name releases at HMV then go to the local store for the whitelabels and smaller label business.

Was up in the one in Oxford Street the other day (while record shopping in Berwick Street..) it was packed out but the selection seemed pretty grim.

Damn. Was thinking of heading in there to spend my £15 worth of vouchers on vinyl. Maybe I'll try the piccadilly circus one.

HaHa, We used call mentals that as kids... "He's fucking Radio Rentals", I remember OurPrice used to have the latest albums layed out with Vinyl, CD and Cassette and sometimes the accompanying VHS. Sometimes I used to cop the Cassette version to play on my badman Tandy own brand walkman.
