They took the two particles from a set to different locations, many kilometres apart. They found that when they changed the spin of one of the particles, the spin of the other one of the pair changed equally almost instantaneously (i.e. faster than anything at the speed of light could have travelled between them).

nah the Philadelphia Experiment never actually happened - read the Wiki, there was only one crew member of that ship that claimed any experiment happened, and he was nowhere near the ship at the time...all a big urban myth.


And yea, collapsing wave function, spooky action at a distance, wave/particle duality & the uncertainty principle are all pretty astonishing concepts, esp when you put them in a metaphysical context. Worth reading a couple of pop. science books on quantum physics if you can be arsed...

funny what you find with the search function... i work at CERN, on one of the experiments that will use the LHC to look for undiscovered physics. unfortunately, it ain't gonna turn on til next year - first collisions will happen in july 2008 or so. which is a good thing as far as i'm concerned, because we're not gonna be ready this year...
