...but doesn't that argue in favour of "you can never stop it"?seckle wrote:those with the " you can never stop it " attitude got woken up today. a sealed indictment delivered in 8 countries is about a year or more of legal steps before a day like today can happen. they were on this years ago, and just building the case slowly.
It'll take a much shorter amount of time for a copycat site to crop up, and if it takes a years worth of legal proceedings to take down a website that didn't make any great effort to be evasive, what chance is there of ever stopping it?

On one of the news articles I seen that it said Megaupload was the 13th most visited site of 2011. That's is a lot of internet gone and this SOPA shit hasn't even passed. The government just got what they wanted + bonus money from all this shenanigans. It's nuts how the internet is being decided by pretty much like a couple hundred old fucks that can barely operate this shit.fractal wrote:exactly. how many legal music files and mixes disappeared today? what will disappear tomorrow?gnome wrote:True but what about people who want to host a file legally? Though I'm sure RIAA & co aren't complaining, these arrests have little to do with piracy as a whole. I wouldn't be too concerned yet.

I would've assumed that the arrests in multiple countries probably got approved more on the grounds of the money laundering and other nefarious charges bits, than just the filesharing bit.
Re: 8 countries, 20 search warrants $50mill seized.
filesharing still going strong though

If SOPA passes, the US government will disappear from the internet.
