I think a cool thing about this thread that we should do that will make it unique is we should post our goals for next week, production-wise, after we've posted our song

So in short, you feel it will get the tracks posted more feedback?
I`m sorry to say but this sounds like the a for-mentioned circle-jerk.
The feedback thread is operating quite well, imo.

It just seems that this is another thread for sharing finished tracks.

Sorry for any negativity.

no, not really. i'm sure it will but that wasn't my point.

i kind of see it like this - say we're all in the same class in school. our assignment is to do a project each week and at the end of each week we bring it in to class to show it to everyone and discuss it. this is all we do in class for the whole term. through this we learn and grow and help one another rather than have all the students out doing projects on their own with no deadlines and never being certain who you're going to discuss it with or if anyone's going to care.

@Electric_Head - Um no, I'm pretty sure no one ever said anything suggesting anything to that end, I'm not sure where you got that assumption from.

If you truly don't understand, and want to, this is the best possible way for me to explain it:

It's a thread, where producers who want to improve both their work speed and, more importantly, their production skills, will post a song a week, the goal being that they finish a track a week. This follows the idea that making a tune a week will cause a large amount of increase in production skill. Others who are following this process will then post feedback, if they so desire, to other people's tracks. We will then, if we so choose, post our production goal for next week, and try to achieve that. Next week rolls around, and go back to the beginning and repeat.

I didn`t say I never understood.
I fully understand the concept I just don`t understand how it will be any different to the Feedback thread.
MikeyP seemed to sum it up by mentioning the fact that you all seem to want better feedback from fellow members in a group contribution.
Rather than randomly receiving feedback that might or might not be rubbish feedback.

yeah the better feedback would be nice but the point is to kind of motivate and be motivated by others to work at a quick pace

Yeah sure, I'm pretty sure an intro wouldn't hurt for this challenge. But for the 2nd week start on a fresh tune :P.

add me in please! i seriously need to do this :D
i wana start right away since its friday now and il keep trying each week.
i spend too much time sound designing & downloading samples that i never use
i need to stop it and make tunes haha, also i never ever thought of this being similar to a feedback thread its completely different.. i want to enter just so i know iv put my name down for something and it would be written in black and white that id have to finish a song by next friday.. rather than me just making 50% half complete songs all the time that never leave my pc, as always.
this is way more of a motivation thing rather than feedback because i just wana get some tunes finished rather than hear peoples opinions

I think it's a great idea, as it's one a week, on a Friday, as opposed to people coming in and out randomly on The WIP/Feedback thread, it's a group of people, that give feedback, if they want, on a specific day, when they post there tune. Also, it kind of gives people a kick in the ass. I know I'm more excited to be working on a song that others, who are working under similar guidelines, are working on, and i can judge mine against theirs in terms of production quality. Not so different from the 48 hour comp or the sample comp, in my eyes anyway.
Also, count me in. :W:

I've been on a track ratio of 1/per day just trying to put everything I learn and study together, may come up with something on the second week.

Yeah I've been wasting time and haven't finished a track since last month...same position you're in Lol. So I'm hoping everyone finishes their tracks each week from motivation of this thread/others

Such as "use (method a) and (method b) to create a song for next week"
Small goals that make sure you don't get too comfortable

Record a gutural vocal or a death growl, anything really deep. Send through a vocoder to add a little bit of synth feel to it (Razor recommended haha). Put in a sampler, pitchdown and stretch. After some resample fun with bitcrush / distortion, it should sound really brostepish. Less resample, more stretching and tons of room reverb, you have this terror ambient scary growl thing.

Mine is honestly as simple as to make a track with a lot of sidechaining. Everyone uses sidechaining and it is obviously a very important and useful technique, but for some reason I have not yet been able to get comfortable with it, although I have done it before.

If a sound doesn't need to be ducked, then I see no reason for sidechain. I use it to just slightly pump the kick through the main bass line, hi hats and crashs, nothing too drastic.
