mala doesn't have digi releases for dmz because he has said numerous times he's a supporter of the vinyl medium. He also prefers his music to be heard through vinyl because he thinks it brings out qualities to the sound that would be missing from a digi release. Its just the way he wants his tunes heard (and i'm guessing Loefah and Coki agree with this but are a bit mox lax with it).

All of the deep medi releases were vinyl only until about a year ago I think. And he only started releasing digi versions with the 12"s because a few of the other deep medi artists asked him to change that.

Hop that helps you with understanding his motives, and if i'm wrong with some things someone correct me

Isn't Swamp vinyl only as well? At least, I've never seen digital releases. So guessing Loe feels the same way about Vinyl.

Digital DMZ tracks you may be able to find some legally through compliations like mary anne hobbs warrior dubz which has anti-war dub on it. But you have to cough up and buy the whole album on BP to get it.

Last night I was able to track down a few of my own rips that I'd given to friends, far from the entire collection, but it's a start.

Nothing says cool like reading one sentence from a thread and attacking it, even after it's been covered... well, except quoting said attack without contributing anything in addition. Teach me how to be cool like you.

You hadn't edited your post when I saw it.

Even if it wasn't an issue of digital vs vinyl sound quality, you called it a hipster stunt to put out vinyl only and say you lose a lot of respect for artists and labels that do it. I love vinyl, but even if I didn't buy it, I'd respect the decision of a group of people that had made the track, had it mastered, put in all the promo, sorted distribution, put in a hell of a lot of money, to present it in any format they like over the wants of some guy who thinks everything should be done his way.

I respect artists and labels that stick to their guns and put out THEIR music THEIR way rather than bowing to the demands of somebody on the internet.

Correct, I made my edit in response to your post to cover it a second time (http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.p ... 3#p2715333)

You make it sound like I'm demanding some large-scale change when really I'm expressing my simple opinion that DMZ wouldn't be committing some great compromise of their standards if they embraced lossless digital releases in addition to continuing to press vinyl.

except you didn't just express a simple opinion that dmz wouldn't be compromising their standards, you said it's a hipster stunt on mala's part... not trying to fuel the fire, just wanted to point out why you might get a little flaming for calling mala a hipster on dsf :w:

fwiw, they were all available off of bleep.com back in the day

I said limiting releases to a single form of media for the express purpose of limiting exposure was a hipster stunt, and I stand by this. However, as I have already acknowledged, three times now in fact, I understand that this is not the intent of DMZ as of reading slanguage's post.

I'm getting flamed because people read as far as my first comment on the matter and decide to hit reply rather than continue reading, which is why I've gone back and added an edit to it as an afterthought.

This thread's gotten off track, but no matter, I got my answer and gained some insight into Mala's philosophy on the matter.

Feel free to keep bumping this, but I have what I came for. Thanks all.

Out of interest would you see it as wrong to rip a digital copy for yourself if you owned the vinyl of a DMZ recording?
