@Crow Steppa - cool drums, would work on putting some synths in there after a while together with the piano or some other instruments to spice up the intro a little instead of it being the same piano melody the whole time, other then that cool start

(that ghost bomb sounds cool btw)

@Burgeamon that's what I started to do with the posts after me mate, otherwise I wouldn't know how far to go back so I just decided to do it from my post on (look at post above). Not intended to be rude or anything

at your WIP I like your use of the vocal and slicing up that melody in the intro. The drop could be a bit harder in my opinion maybe some subbass pitched down from the start there (but could just be that I didnt hear it properly cause right now I can't put up my volume that loud). Other then that it sounds nice :D

Really??

Which one / Which section are you talking about?
I don't hear any clipping, but if there is some it's probably due to heavy distortion :corndance:

@Burgeamon. Haha yea that was not supposed to be there. i accidentally deleted the build up i had there and posted it.

@Everyone else that gave me feedback. I think i over think when i make my songs. I try to put a million different things into the song. i started working on a new one and im making a note to make it way more simple. I am also in school and I have an english class and we are writing essays and we are learning about intro's, body's, and conclusions, and the techniques to making them and it actually helped me a lot with music too haha.

@Burgeamon Great remix, I hate the original but yours sounds a lot better, interested to hear the tempo change. Not much I can criticise just need mixed as you said

@Crow Steppa Loving the drums and the melody reminds me of somehting, not sure what.

@Gaol Lots of it sounds good but parts of it dont feel like the same track, not sure what happens at 1.03, maybe it sounds better with a sub ( I only have monitors)

Sorry im pretty bad at criticising, I'll leave some more feedback for others later. Started this bootleg remix today - Soundcloud

Just threw a limiter on it at the moment, needs EQd and all that good stuff, but im not even finished the rest of it yet

Rex Ruthless: Try to give your loop some more space… There are far too many notes in that riff! + It's to repetitive in my honest opinion!
You tried some thunder there, didn't you? The idea is cool, but try to be more creative with it! And hum, give your snare some more space… It's to quiet and not punchy enough

lost boys: Don't really get why you wanna bootleg such a tune?? (hehe) I think the drumstep rhythm is to fast for the original riff! Sound design is pretty cool… But son, where's your sub? Another tip: The vocals are to dry, imo!
But yeah, your production is pretty nice! Just try to find your own style…We've got lots of tunes like this, so nobody will pay attention!

Billy crystal: I like it, man!! But same thing for you, Where's the sub?? And say no to the filth part at the end, your groove in the beginning is too nice for that… Try making a song out of that! and drop the cheesy part that starts at 0:53

Sorry for being a little bit hard, but yah! Hopefully it's helpful.

And yes, really need advice on this one!

Society.. I listened to your first tune and really liked it. It was really well balanced, nice and clean / crisp, no muddiness and a really deep vibe. in fact I loved it!

As far as the avicii remix.. the reason for it is that we have a residency for a pretty big night (1.5k peeps a week) where we play a mix of indie/rock/house/dubstep/dnb etc.. the crowd is pretty simple, they wanna hear the big tunes etc.. so were creating a few remixes of more well know tunes whilst playing around with sound design etc to see what really works on larger systems etc.. We have LOADS of our own stuff that a few labels are interested in etc.. but tbh, we need to get better. Sometimes we find it easier to take a track and bootleg / edit it and focus on sound design etc.. rather than writing the actual song so much.

But i agree.. the original infuriates me and its annoying that its one of the bigger tunes at the place we DJ at at the moment ha!

Burgeamon: Liking the drumstep twist, though I think the snare and the synths are a little weak, try beefing them up with EQ, Compressors, and plugins like Sausage Fattener.

societyloser1: Very minimal, not really my area, but I can appreciate it being well made. The sub is really nice. Good job!

naroja: Whatever effects you put the drums makes them seem really grainy, and they seem more like a top loop rather than a full beat, try working on layering samples over them!

Kasshern: Great work, the drums are awesome, nice punchy snare. The bass perhaps has a bit too much highs? Mabye cut them slightly, it might sound more balanced. Good job overall though.

kikaruu: You have the right idea, but the low end sounds really muddy. Firstly I'd say to try and make the drums stand out from the rest, using a transient shaper, and better samples. Then eq the bass according to where you boosted the bass samples, and you will be on your way to a cleaner mix!

Here is my new Drumstep track, I'm not sure how it is sounding right now, I'd appreciate any feedback, as technical as you wish! Thank you.

Noisestorm - The WIP is really really tight. My favorite part by far is the little melody you have going on. The only thing is that it becomes annoying after a while because it is doing the same thing every time. Maybe go for an AAAB or AABA pattern instead of AAAA you know what I mean? Maybe even an ABAB. The transition from into to drop feels a little dry/empty but thats an easy fix. All in all its a really awesome song so far man I look forward to hearing the final product.

Noisestorm- kick sounds like its clipping a bit, the whole drum mix feels like its being pushed too hard, your midrange sounds are a bit dry at times too,and your high pitched synth is quiet in comparison to your other bass sounds. apart from that, its a fucking banger man, nice one!

societyloser1- liking the intro stabs, could do with lowcutting the verb on them a tad, the subs a beauty man nice one on that, only thing i can say to you is the drop feels a tad unrelated and disjointed to the intro, maybe a really subtle riser would be nice but thats it bro big tune

burgeamon- i hate that avicii tune haha, only thing i liked in it was the etta james vocal man, so dont fuck with that too much! the idea of the tunes solid, just mix it and process it, its crying out for some polish, could be a biggun when its done bro keep it up

I'd like to get some opinions on my latest production, this isn't finished. I'll still make a 3rd chorus and an outro of some sort, and probably edit some things I've already made.

@ptah and Travis baker, thanks alot guys!!! not sure how to make the drums punch through more. i've done a fair bit of mixing and it's different now but the drums punch thru for me. The kick is a bit heavy on the low end but I like it like that. Maybe the snare isn't snappy enuf especially in the drops. suggestions? I'm hesitant to do too much to it though because it's due next week for the competition. again thanks!!

DJ Squee - no feedback = no feedback

Cheeky - interesting little riff, kept my attention, nice ambient nosies in the background. think the snare needs some work, its pretty lost back there. nice sound design though real bouncy! also i like the variations keeps it interesting.

Noisestorm - again nice melody there and bass's i dont need to tell you whats good here, thats pretty obvious. trying to think of something constuctive to say.....id like the hats to be abit more upfront in the mix but thats just personal opinion i guess! nice track!

SocietyLoser - (808) deeeeeeepness. that snare needs alot more snap though, needs to really slap me in the face through all that sub! i like all the little tapping in the background thats a nice feature. nice and minimal i like it! as far as the other one goes , its alittle boring maybe to much low end, a nice vocal sample massivley high passed giving some more dynamics to the mix.

@Noisestorm-Sounds good mate, really good production all around, maybe turn your drums down a bit and let them awesome synths breathe a little. :W:

@Cheeky- crazy mang, just work on on your mixing a bit and that shit will ride. eq that snare to get that gunshot sound out and make that bitch cut through the mix. Sound design is good, just mix it down a bit, thats all i can say, shit is nastay. 8)

@societyloser-nice vibes but thats always been my problem with that type of dubstep, its too reptitive imho. but production wise its great.

@Burgeamon- tune is a bit annoying imo, maybe turn down them synths a bit, and eq to get those really high freq's out. like the 8bit sounds though, maybe compress those drums a bit too and eq each hit indivdually. big ups though

here is an update, took some advice, increased the sound of the synth in the intro. biggups!

I'd like to first preface that I'm posting feedback without reading the thread and seeing what everyone else has posted regarding anyone of the tracks I'm about to give feedback to. If I happen to repeat something that's already been said, be glad I'm not influenced by a prior post :) Duh right?! lol..

@Burgeamon: The remix is dope, and I'm liking this track a lot. Part of the reason is b/c I LOVE levels and I won't lie, it's novelty is wearing off. However, to be legit about your remix, I'd say well done. I myself don't have much experience doing remixes so I can sincerely appreciate what you have done here. My overall general critique is that the drumstep feel is very consistent even in the intro and breakdown. My suggestion is to play out the melody like we're used to. Instead of sampling the melody, perhaps midi that shit out/play it if you can?...The contrast of the sustained vocals/melody of the levels vs the drumstep feel would go well when the drop hits. Also, I think you have too much novelty (regarding bass sounds) before we get to the chords again at the end of the phrase. Perhaps doing modulation of only two of the bass tones for novelty instead of 4 unique tones?

@society: I like the panning effect in the intro.silence before the drop is dope too. Goes well with the present vibe of the track. The space of the vocal sample is well done. I'm not a minimalist producer so to critique your work to the fullest is beyond me. I usually require MUCH more harmonics in my tracks. However, I certainly can respect what you've done here.

For your second track...Hmm..Not so much my thing for a 4/4 rhythm. Love when you get that triplet feel though with the kick..NICE :). The snare cuts through nicely. There's just not that much dynamics in the track as a whole on a level that I'm used to. So again, sorry that I can't relate that well. Oh and that second drop is DOOOOOPE. Good control shown with the sub bass in this track. Your rhythm changes are respected and the sparseness of the high freq synth is appreciated. Space is well controlled also. Good job here. ( I think anyways :P)

@Noisestorm: Your sounds fill out the the freq spectrum so well. The groove is fucking sick. You're def a bit more advanced than myself. I'm not too much a fan of high pitched wobbles except for their use of contrast to all the low shit. Actually LOVEING your skill for subtle novelty in the main idea. Great job noise! I've been hearing a lot of your recent stuff from the production board and I'm diggin what you're doing. Trying to get a feel for that arrangement style myself. Lastly, it might be a bit too much high pitched freq content now that I have given it a few listens.I feel like at some point I want to get slammed down...Like at the drop...bring it down an octave? Just for the first beat of the 8 bar section?

@Cheeky: The higher freq content in the intro is nicely appropriated with space (reverb/delay) so that when the drop hits, it breathes out nicely and comes back in. I LOVE that! Not only can you hear, but see in the waveform that the sub gets wild around :40s...mixdown, ya? To me, that main wobble is worn out after the first section. change the key? Change the timbre/tone? Something...The drums aren't enough to keep me interested, however if you take a sec and see the shit I produce, I'm sure you'd take that last bit with a grain of salt 8) The rhythm change in the second section is appreciable, but again..that wobble tone is worn out :( And the fact you do it again for a 3rd section...You're killing me...xoxoxo lol

@Squee: You need to provide feedback to earn it. Sorry. PS....CHILL OUT ON THAT SUB...FFS! lol

@ETF: Can't give too critical feedback to dungeon esque stuff but that midrange bass is nice and warm feeling. It sits well in the mix relative to other sounds, but I'd like to see that bad boy finished. Really feeling that one. I would ditch the vocal shot at the first beat of the drop. It clashes with the attack of the growl. Let that shit breathe cause it's nice and mean. Your control over atmosphere and the groove sounds pleasant and I think you have a knack for the dungeon thing.
I'd be inclined to give nearly the exact same feedback to your second track, except that the vocal might occur a bit to frequently to keep it's novelty just by nature of the chop in the sample.

@Crowsteppa: Your drop is sick except one HUGE thing; it happens too quickly. Start your riser a bit later and when that snare finishes, the riser is still going for...i dunno, what?...a half bar more?...let that space breathe and when that synth comes in, it'll light people's tits up b/c I seriously think that contrast of that 1800s saloon style piano and the digital synths is really cool to hear. and of course the sub bass and kick always help :P Liking this track bro.

Ok, my next Work In Progress. Seriously, it's just a basic idea mainly, and groove. But I'm willing to go with suggestions. It might be a bit short to get a good idea of where I'm headed, but I was thinking of a rhythm change for the next section, with light changes to the melody. Again, NO MIXDOWN whatsoever, so watch your speakers, it clips a bit atm

WARNING, Watch the volume, NO mixdown:

Toolman4: Thanks for the reply... I'm here for a quicky. Just listened your tune and noticed you use some kind of trancey synths... I've one advice for you: buy or download rustie's glass swords cd and listen to it a couple of times... I'm pretty sure you get lots of ideas!!

Toolman4 - I wuld make a longer intro I think the melodt is good enough to be longer at the begining, before the proper beat comes in, and you leave too much space in the end of each phrase , that would improve the general flow otherways it is obviously good man, grovy enough to become a good tune.

Crow Steppa - The melody at the beginig is good, I f I were you I would repeat it with the synths that come afterwards, otherwise they sound like 2 different tunes, I know you might have tryed to achieve that effect on purpose. I dont say too many complements its not what we're here for, just copy the main elody and change the notes of you massive and you will have one homogenious tune, but the sound desighn and the rythms are good.

E-T-F - nice one, just keep working on it I would say add few more parts and you're done

@alexeyhermann I really like the composition. The drum are a bit too compressed; they have little dynamics. Also i would make the hi hats louder, and pan them more (slightly to the right). Bass need eq'ing. Good effort

@Toolman4 - im guessing you're not producing on monitors, because the drums sound so distant. I like it though. With a more powerful kick and snare, it would sound infinitely better.

@crow steppa - drums sound a little hollow. interesting sound design and nice melody in the intro!

@E-T-F - i dont listen to any dungeon, but it sounds really cool! id proabably make it sound a bit darker though

Here's my effort:

It's a remix of a neuro dnb tune, and although we've only spent a two days on it, i think its sounding good!
