Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
anyone else having weird crashes in ableton, when you remove a plugin, effect, anything really, and its not just third party ones it also crashes when I remove any of abletons plugins as well, so.....wtf?
more and more everyday, I wonder, "why did I pay $700 for this, when I could have learned to use Logic?"
CANT WAIT FOR BITWIG!!!
(if yuh dun know, go check it out http://bitwig.com/bitwig_studio.php , its Ableton, DONE RIGHT *hopefully* )

Live 8 has been a disaster. I am running the last beta that dropped and its stable to a certain degree. Everyone will tell you to get at tech support , plugins might cause a hang up if you have some new ones maybe. I hear you on bitwig. If live 9 doesnt come full force with SMOOTH OPERATION im out. My biggest issue has always been racks with lots of samples. Freezes and lags. I have to bounce almost everything. Over it.
Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
I hear all these complains yet Ableton NEVER crashes on me. ever.
Burial isnt dubstep, fuck off.
Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
yeah it seems like a coin flip almost. I know guys that have had worse issues than me, and then there are guys like yourself that are in the clear. I thought it would be wise for me to mention that it is amazing software in concept which is what keeps me loyal at the moment. I mean when its running smooth its to sweet. But three tracks deep( couple VSTs and one drum rack holding close to 1000 samples stored across 64 samplers ) and its lights out with only 20% CPU. And when I say that the BETA version im running is the most stable of all the versions of 8 its because its the only version I have been able to use comfortably at all. Going to try a couple things here soon, maybe get some better results. For the record, MBP 2.53 core duo, 4 gigs ram, 250 hd with 100 gigs available. OSX 10.6.8 / live 8.2.7b3.Warwolt wrote:I hear all these complains yet Ableton NEVER crashes on me. ever.

With Bitwig being soo new to the DAW field, I can`t imagine it just being released and everyone being happy.ShadowMachine wrote:anyone else having weird crashes in ableton, when you remove a plugin, effect, anything really, and its not just third party ones it also crashes when I remove any of abletons plugins as well, so.....wtf?

Expect problems and a learning curve.

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
That's one of the reasons that I dumped it went over to Logic, because it was so unstable
... Not that Logic never crashes, but it's only quarter of the time compared to the dreaded Ableton Live (or dead as the case may be). Was bit pissed after all the cash I paid for it.

Doesnt happen toooooo often, probably 1-2x a week, but luckily Autorecover is a great feature that has saved my ass many times
Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
This is why I went back to live 7. Not had any issues with 7. Only setback was all the stuff I made with 8 cannot be opened with 7.

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
heres what im running comp spec wise; 13" MB aluminum uni (not pro tho, 1st and 2nd gen 13" were macbooks, and the 15" was the pro) with 8gigs ram (yes 8, and yes my book recognizes it as
with a xone 2D used as sound card. have my buffer settings maxed cuz if it isnt then for some reason, ableton is laggy both audio and visually, thats without the soundcard, when I plug the 2D in the buffer settings change back to 512, think maybe increase the 2Ds buffer?
and really tho, Im soo puzzled on this... normally, you add VSTs and plugins and what not, CPU gets high, crash....understandable, but, Ill be sitting at 30-35cpu tops and REMOVE a plugin, see the cigarette ball of swirly gayness, and crash.....wtf? lol

8 gig and you have to max the buffer?ShadowMachine wrote:heres what im running comp spec wise; 13" MB aluminum uni (not pro tho, 1st and 2nd gen 13" were macbooks, and the 15" was the pro) with 8gigs ram (yes 8, and yes my book recognizes it aswith a xone 2D used as sound card. have my buffer settings maxed cuz if it isnt then for some reason, ableton is laggy both audio and visually, thats without the soundcard, when I plug the 2D in the buffer settings change back to 512, think maybe increase the 2Ds buffer?
That's not right manye
Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
I usually set the buffer to max by default (4096 on asio4all) I have 6GB of RAM but Ableton can only use 3 anyhow so i can max it out fairly easy i find.

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
I thought it was 4?
i didn't mean maxing the memory, but the fact it lags when the buffer isn't maxed without too much going on is odd..
Running the beta and expecting it to be stable is a bit naive innit?
(not saying you did that, but someone mentioned it)

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
Im on the Beta version. Gave the specs above. Its the most stable version of 8 I have tried. But im going to try the newest official version again here soon now that I have cleaned up my template and vsts. I do almost everything in sampler and drum racks now. I think my issue is somehow related to the delay compensation settings and vsts. Necessity not naivety.Ghost of Muttley wrote:I thought it was 4?

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
Live crashes on me sometimes but it's not too frequent. I've never lost any work from a crash either.

Re: Able-ton NOT crash all the time?
A couple years ago, before I had a good job and some disposable income mind you, I started producing again after 8 years hiatus, working on a few tracks with an old friend who was using a cracked version of Live. Since then I've bought Suite 8 and also never have had close to the amount of lag or crashes compared to Cubase or Acid. I think that says a lot when even a cracked version is more stable than legit versions of the competition. NOT AT ALL CONDONING CRACKS HERE!! Just saying it impressed me enough to buy Suite 8 without hesitation and any problems have been my own fault so far. AutoRecover works great, although very rarely needed.
