Re: TV show to find the worlds greatest DJs!
On a positive note this could also get some money flowing in the electronic scene via licensing of music, that could be great for sales and supporting independent artists and labels.
That's being extremely optimistic, but licensing for independent music is loads more cost effective for them to do.
They most likely will have to license and work out legal deals for the music long before people DJ it, so they very likely would have to choose from a list of pre-approved music similar to other shows of this format. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the music used came from the same 3 or 4 labels.

I don't care much for reality television personally though I'm quite interested to see what the format is.

In my pretend world they get someone hilarious like N-Type, someone awesome from the techno side of things like Jeff Mills and one of the instrumental hip hop guys (not a turntablist). Also, to all those hating on the turntablists surely you still admit that some of the best DJs are in instrumental hip hop as a lot of them are just ridiculous when it comes to blending tracks from all different genres/bpms and 3/4 deck mixing. But yeah that's not gonna happen.

Except it won't be.
The sort of kids who apply for this (sweeping generalisation here, so bear with me) won't be whacking out some awesome triple flipping 12" tricks. They'll just be doing fancy shit with Serato.

^^^^ The "DJ" has headphones on his t-shirt, yet there are no actual headphones in the picture?? There is a massive tnuc tho.
I read the blurb on the website, and it stated something like "Simon Cowell is looking for the next Skirllex".
So they are looking for somebody who cant mix and can only trigger buttons??
This will be dire. How will sub-bass translate over television?

But why would he want the next Skrillex? He can earn way more money exploiting a Guetta or Armin wannabee.LA_Boxers wrote:^^^^ The "DJ" has headphones on his t-shirt, yet there are no actual headphones in the picture?? There is a massive tnuc tho.

Meh I kinda get the hate but it's going overboard. Same with how people gush over DJs who just mix tightly.leyenda303 wrote:In my pretend world they get someone hilarious like N-Type, someone awesome from the techno side of things like Jeff Mills and one of the instrumental hip hop guys (not a turntablist). I dig a DJ who's amazing at both + amazing tune selection.
