Show some love for absynth

Post by lloydy » Sat Jan 28, 2012 10:06 pm

Absynth is a really good synth that seems to get overlooked on here.I have started to muck about with it properly over the last few weeks and it has some pretty decent functions.
Load up just one oscillator in the patch window, select sample rather than wave and load it up then go to the envelope window.Create a new envelope and choose osc a sample jump, you can create markers in the envelope window and drag the wave about to choose different sample start points and add as many points as you want.It is very effective at getting mad little edits done very quickly.
Also i have had a few tearing and subtle subby blines out of it too.
I have been pretty impressed with the filters and lfo's,you can draw your own wave shapes and then load up to use as the lfo shape.Pretty damn intrigued i am.
Any one else have any tips or tricks to do with this beauty?

Been using it about a month now. Loving it but barely scratched the surface...

This has been helpful http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2009/ ... tutorials/

Some really good ones on Youtube too ;-)

yeh i use absynth for evolving pads, do have to admit the gui can be atad messy but you can findyourself realy getting lost in it (in a good way) my advise would to be practice ising the modulation matrix on simple 2 osc sounds the buil on that with afew diffrent wav forms with cutoffs modulating to create big spacy pads lol. i think they still sell the C/Musicfocus Guide to NI , get a coppy ;)

The gui for me is just a bit messy,it isn't lay'ed out nice and simple like massive or fm8.Saying that i think once i've used it in a few projects and i work out what function's are gonna most suit the way i work it should become pretty easy.I remember the days of being intimidated by massive's gui and that's probably the easiest of the lot.
Yeah and nice one for the link drokkr ill check them out now.

i've been loving zebra 2. absynth looks cool, but I'm all set with forking over the dough to NI. they don't listen to their customers and really just love to fuck people over with updates and making certain shit incompatible so you have to update etc etc.

Tbh i have found their support network pretty good, everytime i have had to contact them they are in touch within a couple of days so i don't completely agree with you, also i havn't had many problems with their software,i think kontakt 3 had a lot of bugs when first released and there isn't enough info for first timers with reaktor but i like their synths.Massive in all fairness has been ragged now because i think of the ease of use but fm8 and absynth are really deep synths where you have to think slightly outside of the box but both capable synths that are well worth the money.I have zebra but havn't really got into it yet but i will eventually then i will pass comment what company i prefer.

Love Absynth, pretty sure I've used it in every track I've ever finished. I think the fact that it looks a bit different puts people off but just look a video that explains the GUI its actually really straight forward, love the fact that you can draw your own envelopes and assign them to pretty much anything. Really getting into FM8 these days too, making some crazy dark bass sounds with it.

This track I'm working on still needs a good bit of work but the background nosiey atmoshperics is my latest Absynth creation

I think once you delve into most gui's you can work them out pretty quick, what i've seen of absynth over the weekend has really made me wanna learn it,i was a bit scared of fm8 when i first started with it,the thing with fm8 its very easy to get carried away and make the most nasty earsplitting tones,i just learnt with fm8 the less the better. You can pull some really interesting tones from it,i use it in all my tracks now and can honestly see absynth start making its way in there too.

I go through a phase where I don't Absynth for 6 months and everytime I go back, I can't ever understand why I've left. The interface is a bit tricky and I haven't seen any great tutorials lately (then again, I haven't looked in a while) but it is a beast and worth every minute put into it. Thanks for that tip by the way!

Absynth is extremely feature-dense software really geared toward professional Sound Designers. They use it a lot in games, & movies for sound effects, not so much the music. It's not easy to jump into for your average bedroom producer, but it's insanely good & there are way more than enough presets on it you can tweak that one shouldn't stress about programming it anyway...

its amazing for atmosphere, probably 1 of the best synths iv heard for abstract sounds no doubt.
for melodic stuff i like loading up leads etc and using the mutate button on them. it just automatically makes some really beautiful leads and pluck sounds depending on the initial preset :)
i seriously hate using presets all together but absynth is really good for making new sounds even when just using the mutate button alone.
