If the Pacific Northwest is off your radar, itʼs time to wake up and smell the bass kids. Seattleʼs own TZR brings it proper with The Forsaken EP, a banquet of spacey, sci-fi Dubstep grooves. A textural masterpiece rich with contemplative melodies and evocative production, this selection of moody cuts is best for when itʼs time to go deep. The neurofunk production signature runs wild here, so be warned: if youʼre looking for wobble, youʼre in the wrong place.
“There is not a more repulsive spectacle than on old man who will not forsake the world, which has already forsaken him.” ~ T.S. Eliot
Forsaken is a bold acid trip down memory lane to the old ʻardkore days, back before raves were strictly panty-clad prepubescent orgies. Sawtooth leads buzz like angry hornets over swelling bass, then give you a breather before they come back around to sting you into submission.
TZR combines forces with fellow Seattle basspusher Press on Dead Language. Spooky Theremin warbling over filtered mids makes for a harrowing dubstep dirge. Press also appears on Core Sample, an epic psychonaught stumble through surging bass progression and percussive arpeggio drifts.
90ʼs trip-hop a la Massive Attack comes to mind as Secrets unfolds into a deep, downtempo lounge-step rhythm that keeps a sea of warm pads adrift in the aether. Includes a sultry vocal version featuring Nyx.
Siren's Song beckons the mind back to a serene place with lush pads and smooth, rolling subs. The balm of broken eardrums after a long night of cochlea- crushing bass, this dreamy tune will trigger some much-needed dopamine. Mmm.
